Jimmy you are obviously a full timer. If you were a part timer you would be saying the opposite.
It's time we all worked together.

Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Jimmy Carr`s laugh wrote:Wrong. You can ring upto 1 hour before you finish, once you get into the final hour you should know that your ok, or at worst go over by a meagre amount. What happens if you think you are gona be ok, then you have a really bad day with traffic, roadworks, leaving lots of form lefts, etc etc making you late - you cant complete as you have stuff planned, ie school run or whatever. This is why it amazes me when managers go home at 11, and the guys are only back between 130-300hantsman wrote:
Pretty poor advice really on an open forum, you should be using the equipment provided regardless, and you need to inform mangament before you go out, if you cant complete.
Really,
So where is all that mentioned in the "0ver running procedures" ?
Its not, inform them management before you go out, that you can't complete.

And people wonder why we are at striking point, ffs this company cannot be allowed to get away with the intimidation that is going on at the moment. Cannot believe people are told willful delay if you bring ANYTHING back. Following procedure informing manager etc only seems to put a target on your back. Be careful, have witnesses, union rep present, don't be alone with manager, when you have to give advice like this something is very wrong.

First off Dick relax. If people were sacked over things like this every day there'd be noone left on deliveries. Immediately after the revision we had over half the walks coming back on a daily basis! That was a couple of years ago and we still get bits of walks coming back regularly even now
You do need to follow procedures correctly though to make sure your back is covered. Work at a reasonable pace, use the equipment provided. Now this bit is obviously down to individual offices but in mine we have to let the DOM know if there is a POSSIBILTY before you leave the office that you may not complete. This allows them to get cover if necessary and in my mind is reasonable enough. Follow the rules and you will be fine. Don't let them intimidate you into working over if you do not wish to as we are all entitled to work to our time with no exceptions!
If you are not a member of the union it may be an idea to join them now just for a little reassurance if nothing else. Like I said if you follow the rules they can't really do anything to you so don't stress out over it!

The problem is on P/L you don't know for sure exactly how long you are going to take anyway so how can you tell the DOM when you are going to finish.
1/For a start you haven't thrown off one of your frames
2/ you don't know how many dockets you are going to write out
3/ you don't know how fast or slow your partner for the day is
4/You might not have done the round before
The DOM only wants you to make an early decision so he can go home early

So you think you can just about finish on time to get the kids at 315, you get out here, theres no one home at any parcel/specials drops, so god knows how many cards to fill out, its a windyday and the hct feels like twice the weight. Starts raining, mail falling to bits, impossible to write cards out, suddenly its 2pm and you have at least 2 hrs work left - what to do ? Ring work, managers gone home, only other person who can get kids is the mrs who works 90 miles away and is a teacher so has her phone turned off. Um, what to do? Kids? Job? Kids? Job? tough choice.
if you think you only may "just about" finish, then inform the manager that you may not finish, especially if theres a culture of managers leaving delivery office early.
