ROYAL Mail staff have restored donated furniture to raise cash for Helen and Douglas House hospice for young people in East Oxford.
Seventeen managers mended, sanded, painted and varnished to add value to items of furniture at the hospice’s warehouse in Abingdon.
Mike Hardcastle, Royal Mail project manager, said: “This was an opportunity for managers from different areas of the UK to work together as a team and help Helen and Douglas House raise more funds.
“It is a fantastic charity that provides huge amounts of support and specialist care for children and young people.
“This was the third volunteering event this group has undertaken for a charity and we looked forward to doing something completely different from our day jobs.”
Aimie Hancock, corporate fundraiser, said: “This project is one of our most popular team days for corporate supporters and it is a great way for participants to engage with the charity.”
It costs more than £5m every year to run the hospice.
Anyone who can donate items can contact Richard Morgan, warehouse manager, on 01235 539992.

Re: Royal Mail managers restore furniture for hospice
Seem to have found some managers that care about others.
Wonder if they give a s**t about the staff under them at RM?
Plus, 4 posties could have done the same amount as them in half the time.....

Anyone who helps children and young people nots so fortunate as ourselves is doing a great thing. Remember we may all need a hospice one day for ourselves or a family member. Great to see people care.

It is right not to scoff at any charitable work no matter how well meaning. Hospices do an amazing job and depend mainly on voluntarily contributions. I have been looking for a charity to pass on my share allocation, if they want to pm me with the Hospices details then I will gladly do so. i am sure that the managers will be doing the same.
