If the management are out on a different day to the Opg's who will supervise the work?

Most offices would probably run a lot smoother without 'management' interference!

Too bleeding right! In fact ours did, we had a Manager that would sleep in the office, let us get on with it, and we did!

Why do they have a different union ?

Why would you want that scabby lot in the CWU? When they had their own 'union' (CMA) they did approach the CWU about a merger iirc, but CWU delegates at Conference made it clear that the CWU should have nothing to do with them.
They then merged with Unite. I am told by a Unite London District Executive Committee member that they operate pretty much as a secretive autonomous group within Unite.

First, IF and that's a very big IF, there is a ballot, and IF managers vote to strike, and IF they actually strike, it would be best that they do so on alternate days to us, it would cause more issues for RM.
It would also be better if Unite and the CWU coordinate with each other on this.

If they do strike, then as they are key holders, how would we get into the office to work?
Managers should also (but wouldn't) refuse to hand keys back to others.
Buildings would be locked up, so in effect we'd be on strike too.
And, whilst RM may be able to get some managers not to strike, and other staff members to open up, they couldn't do it across the country.

Some offices would be open, but how many is anyone's guess. Some are open 24 hours a day, so may be unaffected.

Yes, at the moment but I believe UnG is correct. I think that there is currently a recruitment drive for 1 coach per 20 OPGs whose responsibilities will be far wider than at present - even RTW interviews have been mooted, working the line and out on delivery - personally I don't think that once this IA is over with they'll have any problem recruiting either.

There have been no recorded instances of industrial action by CMA members since 1979

Does anyone remember what happened in 1979 or is it just the case that Royal Mail don't have records before that date?

Totally agree with UnhappyGremlin - the coordination between CWU and Unite is key.

There are hundreds of staff at my place and they cannot work unsupervised - H&S etc, so I would like to see separate days to maximise the impact.

So it's a plan to get some new supervisors on the cheap and most 'managers' should be worried as they are only really supervisors.
