Could the public/businesses pay us to strike?

Maybe wardy and co might make a contribution from there big fat pay packets that members willingly contribute to.......as for the public they are not likely to help anyone when their parcels , benefit checks and hospital appointments don't arrive.

Did you miss the bit where the privatisation is oversubscribed? The general publice couldn't give a dam especially if they might be in for a few quid.
