Very quiet for the middle of an IA ballot.

A few of us were saying the same thing yesterday - an update on talks would be good. No sign of ACAS involvement yet ?

I have taken a keen interest in the pension issue from day one and yet The RMPP Pension Proposal seems to have sailed through. Both the CWU and RM are claiming credit for what amounts to only a minor concession - the cost of which is unknown. The fact that the Company's decision has still freed up RM to use the £2 billion plus to fund the additional cost of £300 million each year suggests the cost of the 'hard won' concession was actually minimal. You have to ask why the Government left such a large amount of the money in the Plan for one purpose and yet is allowing RM to use it for another, given the scheme was not even in deficit.

There appears to be no information in the public domain that proves that the additional cost of keeping the scheme open is £300 million each year and the outcome of the 2012 valuation is still unknown. So the caveats that surround the company keeping the scheme open for another 5 years could already be known to RM and the rest of us including the CWU are in the dark. The CWU seem quiet on this issue, other than trying to win improvements to the defined contribution plan.

I think the pay element of the dispute can be resolved by tweaking the numbers and strings - the terms and conditions is the real big issue for the majority.

Time to hear from our leaders or should that be servants?

What worries me is that the closing date of the ballot is still 12 days away. Let's face it, most of us who post on here couldn't wait to put that 'x' on the YES box of the ballot paper, and posted it back days ago. Likewise, those who are misguided enough to vote No have probably returned theirs already. But there will be those waverers, that unknown percentage of people, who usually fail to return their ballot paper at all, who may be swayed be Moya Greene's 'offer' and the £300 bribe for not striking. The timing of the letter is significant. Why wasn't it sent out before we received our ballot papers? Because this 'bribe' tactic only occurred to RM in the past dew days. Seems to me, RM were caught on the hop as well by the announcement of the rushed timescale for completing the privatisation. Someone must have thought 'ok, the government's bribing them with up to £2k in shares to vote No... let's bribe 'em with a further £300!

It might sway some votes to the dark side, unfortunately. That's the problem with the postal ballots that (the real) Thatcher brought into law. People can say whatever they like to work colleagues, blatantly lie about having voted Yes when, in fact, they actually voted No. Try finding anyone in your office that will admit to having voted in favour of the Way Forward agreement some years ago :evil/mad

I still maintain HOW can you have any confidence in the 2 Clowns that completed the Deal of the Century with their TUC Chums last time we went on strike.
I stood on the Picket lines I believed in striking ,the deal we got last time that these clowns negotiated for Delivery Staff was dreadful and many Union staff know it was ,for non delivery staff it was a great deal .

How can you trust the jokers who messed it up last time ,to take on a Woman .
Where is Scargill now ?
Is he still a member of that union even ?

Yes - he is a retired member (we have them in the CWU as well)

However, he has had a falling out with the NUM at the back end of last year - about his London Flat :shock: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-20303797" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

the deal of the century has not been forgotten and yes its very quite nearly dead in london it does seem
the offices who have had a revision forced in by money have turned against the union.
also outer london offices are not to happy with the union.i still think we will get the yes vote but by what margin
and at what cost to the members.

North London , you say its dead in London well We had comms out , we had members meetings I have been to 4 offices in North London personally. I have to say In all the 36 offices I have held meetings at the response has been good.

Let's be clear on this , we see TNT on the streets of London , remember only 47% of your delivery work is covered by the USO the rest could be outsourced to a cheaper workforce including TNT.

So I believe in London we will get a massive yes vote. I yes there are quite a few revisions going on in North London and all of those revisions have all had less Saturdays and received the money and those who still had 4 day weeks N1 and N16 kept them.

Well we had a visit from a divisional rep. (NW London)
He spoke to the same 20 people who turn up at every union meeting, the other 60 deciding to give it a miss.
The office has had £200 of the £1000. We are still on 1 in 6 Saturdays.
They still use bags on backs and private cars on delivery, including by one of the union "committee".
A lot still start early and doing the job properly is laughed at.

Will you get a massive yes vote? Probably.
Do the members fully understand the issues? I don't think so.
Round up the usual suspects.

Perhaps we should consider having a splinter group for the London CWU - sort of what goes on in London Stays in London and the rest of us take our chances - like with the revisions really, ours was 3 years ago and old smokey is still at it, still starting early, using cars and bags on shoulder...........ho hum - is it any wonder we've been privatised, RM must see what goes on there and thinks it's like that nationally. Perhaps your interpretation of the meeting with 20 out of 80 turning up for the meeting highlights the problem of the hierarchy thinking the emperor is wearing clothes, after all if you're surrounded by a bunch of back slapping sycophants why would you want to hear and see the reality, like for example where are the other 60?
