Re: Current Mail Centres & Distribution Centres etc.
Some really good points above but the thing that concerns me most and people seem to miss the point sometimes is that they can move work to another mail centre quite quickly these days especially the second class. This takes hours of work out of offices and can even get rid of night and early shifts. So the best working offices will get the work and the less efficient will lose work. You only need to look at the offices mentioned which have lost second class. This is the same on logistics if you don't want the runs they move them to more efficient vocs where they are covered more efficiently..

Maybe you should talk to HQ's about the Rep to see if they can resolve it informallybenn2261 wrote:pcb wrote:If you are permanent full time (and been in your duty more than 12 months) then temporarily promoted to Dist drivers then you should be able to have applied for the reserve duties. Re: Current Mail Centres & Distribution Centres etc.
With most offices closed before 6am we are doing a lot of lock and drop Most areas do it with a buddy system but GU Hub go in on their own Their Branch agreed that. The management want to goto that system rather then the buddy system and in the absence of a proper national agreement management do what they want. The only national agreement is one manning offices where there are guidelines to follow. The problem with mail centres taking on more work and lack of space work can't be stored.

Swindon only has one Tops2K now - the second (naturally the faster better machine of the two) was taken out years ago.SpacePhoenix wrote:rainbowwarrior72 wrote:I am assuming phase 2 is when they will start the process of Super Super Mail Centres. The view seems to be that RM want 3-4 MCs per region and big enough to accommodate a packet machine and another FSM. Most MCs have just the one FSM I think Thames Valley has 2 but might be wrong on that. Also with the new closures announced like Gloucester, Pompey, Cambridge, Ipswich, Shrewsbury and the others it stands to reason to expect some major reshuffling. Watford took on Luton work only to close 2years later.
As for RG and SL moving in to a different site, there aren't really any codes that could viably go into SN in its place, unless Bristol loses GL - only other choice is BA or SP and they're both too far out for DO runs.

I would check the planning dept and see if Royal Mail has purchased any land in the area. Otherwise you know how rumours start these days.rainbowwarrior72 wrote:There are rumours coming out of Pompey about a big MC being built somewhere up the A31 the big question whats the long term future of Dorset MC?

Re: Current Mail Centres & Distribution Centres etc.
If you read the prospectus there will be 37 MCs by 2016 and this means no further closures other than those already announced. There are always lots of rumours re MCs but closures and changes require huge investment and the closure programme has lasted for years. Probably likely that the smaller MCs will lose their 2nd class to larger ones.

Re: Current Mail Centres & Distribution Centres etc.
Sorry, can't see that at all.If PO/SO/BH MC's were all to shut a "super MC" on the A31 would be unlikely.Any new MC would be more central (M27/M3),which are also much better roads than the A31 which is little more than a dual carridgeway in most places, and runs through the NewForest.cloherty1976 wrote:I would check the planning dept and see if Royal Mail has purchased any land in the area. How about building a MC superhub at Bournemouth airport, where there is already a hub for uk airmail?

Closure of Leicester Mail Centre
The final move in the relocation of processing for the LE postcode area takes place on Monday 14th October, when the processing of inward mail - that's mail posted in other parts of the country for delivery to addresses in the LE postcode area - moves from the Leicester Mail Centre in Centurian Way, to the South Midlands Mail Centre Swan Valley, Northampton.
Outward posted mail is already being processed at South Midlands Mail Centre, so recipients of mail from the LE postcode area, may already have noticed an unfamiliar postmark on their standard mail.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Current Mail Centres & Distribution Centres etc.
Was talking to a Network driver last night re the selling of Londons MCs and he seemed to think that The Mount being sold off is a red herring due to the fact that they spent so much on it so far and because of the O Licence capacity it would cause problems operationally if they did sell the Undercroft and other bits also he said that the underground railway may be revamped and turned into a tourist attraction. Considering that they want to pedestianise Oxford St long term that underground railway could be still a money spinner ie transporting stuff

Yes, there's a planning application in for the underground mail railway at Mount Pleasant but I doubt if there will ever be public access to it from any of the other half dozen stations.rainbowwarrior72 wrote:Was talking to a Network driver last night re the selling of Londons MCs and he seemed to think that The Mount being sold off is a red herring due to the fact that they spent so much on it so far and because of the O Licence capacity it would cause problems operationally if they did sell the Undercroft and other bits also he said that the underground railway may be revamped and turned into a tourist attraction. It's been a while.. but I'm back again! :)
Is this list still of use? Probably outdated by now..
One thing I do notice is that Doncaster MC was due to close in 2012/13, but it looks to be still fully functional.

Re: Current Mail Centres & Distribution Centres etc.
Needs updating but according to the bosses re closures we are on the home straight now I think you'll have to update in future after 2016 just reshuffling of post codes as work may moved in and out of surviving MCs
