A good debate is one in which there is a frank exchange of views on both sides, if people think that a honest, but perhaps biased, counter view is a personal attack (and I have seen such claims on here) then they need to become a bit more mature and open minded.

Agree TBT Well said How much more could be achieved in this Business IF we could discuss and agree to sort out many of these problems we have. Unfortunately both parties always start from opposite positions and aren't willing to meet anywhere near half way!

I'm sure most of us are aware that Strikes don't make you any money.......that £5 a week payrise you strike for often takes you years to clawback because of those Striking Days you've lost. That is still not a reason not to Strike! We Strike exactly because RM are not willing to meet us halfway and insist on being so bloody minded! What makes my blood boil is when you see the like of Moya on the TV saying,"All we ask is that the CWU sit down and discuss these problems"! FFS That's what we've been trying to do...you're just not interested in listening!

Thanks for that TBT I respect your views and I do like a good debate too, just never done it using this technology before. Still learning to use this ipad but enjoying it. To make my position clear I don't like losing and basically I do want what you want in terms and conditions but just think the union are always backward when it comes to going forward. I would vote yes in the vote but as I came out of union 4 years ago I have no vote. I see the Royal Mail are using linklaters law firm and that is when I start to worry as these are very good..expensive

It is called bargaining you need a position of strength to do this this is why we need to VOTE YES it gives our union a position at the table if they don't like it they can kick the legs off it so it is good being in a union we do have a say in the companies affairs!.

Agree K.... I'll be voting YES...just putting the point that a lot of Posties use the "Loss of Pay" excuse as some sort of excuse. I agree we need a position of strength to bargain from.

Many years ago I was in a company that asked a Union to come in and represent us (which they did) and I remember the Rep telling us that in any company that had (I believe) it was over 75% membership there had never been a need to strike! Obviously the Management knew that at least 3 in every 4 workers were a Union member and it just wasn't worth trying to take them on!

Every time someone drops out of any Union it weakens the whole structure. The weakest excuse IMHO is that people think it's a waste of money! FFS People are paying £60 a month to watch bloody Sky TV! I know the Union Fat Cats may be driving around in Limos (and in the bad old days living in houses) paid for by Union members but surely that's up to the membership to sort out? Tip for future Union votes....show me that you've done a "Real" job within the last 10 years and are still in touch with reality. We've got enough "Professional Politicians"...I don't want "Professional Union Reps"....Yes I know they've got to be proficient in what they do, But It's like Music...Lets keep it REAL!

Agree with the point you're making pcb. I was talking with a nearby CWU Rep asking him how he thought the Strike might effect his office. Would the majority strike? He raised another baffling point concerning Union Membership, "Most of them will probably vote YES...but then come into work anyway........that's what they did last time"! "Most will probably stay out on the first day but then come in if there's any other strike days"

I suppose what is worse than someone who resigns from the Union and then complains, is someone that remains in the Union complains about everything (Even votes to do something about it) and then can't be arsed to follow through!
