Sorry to ask again. But

Our revision is kicking in early next year .

And the planners have used a walking speed of 4.22mph. I thought that this had been lowered to something like 3.7mph some time ago.

Am I right ? Or has age caught up with me and I have gone mad?

Also; is there a definitive list (that is agreed of all the elements?

Don't worry, You will never exceed 2 mph on delivery with all the obstacles & distractions.

What is the Average Walking Speed?

The average walking speed is supposedly 2 mile per hour. A "Brisk" walk is about 4 miles per hour, and jogging is usually about 8 miles per hour.

Rules of Thumb for Walking Speed

Daily Steps: If you are just tracking your daily steps with a pedometer as you go about your job or putter around the house, you can use 2 miles per hour or 2.5 miles per hour.
That is 3.2 kilometers per hour to 4 kilometers per hour.

Easy Health Walk: If you take an easy walk around the neighborhood or park, able to keep up a full conversation, use 3 miles per hour or 5 kilometers per hour as a rule of thumb.

Moderate to Brisk Walk: If you are walking at a determined to swift pace and breathing noticeably, use 4 miles per hour or 6.5 kilometers per hour.

Fast Walking: Fast walkers usually know their speed or have measured it. Racewalkers can walk 5-6 miles per hour or even faster. That is 8-10 kilometers per hour.


Add carring or pulling anything to any of the above over a 4 Hr delivery span and your looking at the definition of IMPOSSIBLE

Geo is B.S. it dosent work, we have tried for 2 yrs to get the outputs to match reality and it dosent! All we get now is that its an agreed national procedure and so unlucky its going in.

4.22mph is beyond excessive, in my opinion it's downright insane. I've gone on long-distance treks/hiking etc (yeah I know, we all do every day ), walking at a very quick pace and looked at the distance covered over time as a result. 4mph is achievable for someone who's in good physical fitness, but only for so long. Maintaining a constant walking speed of 4mph for a duration of just 1 hour is impressive in itself. Now to expect someone to keep that going over 3-4 hours is like suggesting a sprint athlete should be capable of running a marathon at a constant sprinting speed. Faulty logic, and just to top it off we have to carry bags/push trolleys/go up and down stairs etc. So now we're expecting Usain Bolt to run a marathon, at a sprinter's pace, with hurdles thrown in too! I'd also like to know how the planners can disregard the effects of exhaustion on the human body. A 4 hour walk is not just simply a 3 hour walk with an extra hour added on. That's an hour where the body is running on less fuel for energy, the mind more prone to fatigue and therefore mistakes, and the legs less able to keep pace. Therefore the work taken in each successive hour should be expected to take longer than the work taken in each previous hour. I mean this is hardly rocket science ("if you physically exert yourself over a duration of time, you're going to get tired!" Who would've thought? ).

Given that half the time you are standing still at doors, you would have to run between doors to maintain that average.
4.2mph between doors with an average of 2.0mph over the duty would mean a 4hr duty was 8 miles walking.
Either the planner doesn't understand his tools or you don't understand what the planner is going on about.

Madness. You may start off at just over 4mph but after a 4hr delivery span your last loop isn't 4mph. Fatigue hasn't been taken into account.

You can always go to mapmyrun and see how long your duty is.
This is basically georoute but you need to add on the lengths of the garden paths.

Then divide the length by the delivery span and it will give you an average walking speed.
If the average walking speed is over 4mph then a 4hr delivery would give you a 16+ mile delivery route.

so what is the 4.22mph figure, a max speed at some point when you walk? surely pointless and means nothing if so.

Get the planner to do it at 4.22 mph and stick a broom up his / her ass they can clean up their bullshit as they go along.
