It make's you wonder if the CWU leadership had already decided seceretly not to oppose privatisation and instead concentrate on T&C ?

Why else would they let themselfs be outsmarted by, lets face it, not the brightest bunch of RM upper management.

It's not as if the trick of calling an early privatisation date could not have been seen, we could see by the posts on this site that people were calling for the ballot to be held early to prevent just this situation.

The fact is that RM will be privatised whatever way the vote goes

Let us get this right I said ages ago that depsite our best efforts we would have a majority share sold. This was even more guaranteed once the Government confirmed that anyone investing in Royal Mail would be guaranteed a dividend in years 1 &2 . How corrupt was that !!

However the dispute was always about the impact to our terms and conditions from a new privitiased Royal Mail. If you want your deliveries , your collection routes , your VOC, RDC or mail centre franchised then vote no. If you want your work outsourced Vote NO. Remember only 47% of the work in your delivery office and mail centre comes under the USO the remainder could be outsourced and be done cheaper then by us. That what a privitiased company chasing profits does. Ask those who work in other industries who have seen their work outsourced and their jobs lost.

Equally if you don't want your pensions , you don't want your annual leave arrangements , your paid meal reliefs , your seniority , your sick pays arrangements then vote NO.

Can you imagine how pleased new owners will be if some vote no ! They will believe that they can rip us your terms and conditions thinking you won't stand up against their plans.

For the result of us and I believe the ballot result will show we are the majiority we will fight and we will make a stand ! You can stand and hold our coats but be in no doubt if we lose you will lose !!

The members will rightly be asking why the ballot took so long,they'll be wondering what is going on with the pension shambles,they'll be wondering why we are giving money to Labour when the Leadership has just slapped us in the face.

Royal Mail have been allowed to undermine the ballot from the start with regards to pensions and privatisation and if my guess is right in the next week or so they will throw an improved pay deal on the table perhaps even with a longer protection deal of 5 years.

We have allowed Royal Mail the driving seat all through this and a lot of members are asking why?

We are not allowed to strike for political reasons, such as opposition to privatisation under current Union legislation, so the only thing we would be allowed to strike on is T&C. So indirectly we are opposing privatisation by default but it couldn't be as explicit.

dingo what % do you think would change r/ms mind and agree to all the changes to t&cs etc , because I think if its only 60 - 70 % vote yes I think we will be in the s**t and r/m would grind it down even more , we need it in the 90 % to have a chance to win , do you have any ideas on how cwu would sort the I/a out , is it all out and s**t or bust or a rolling strikes but not on a Monday or Tuesday , I would say weds - processing , thurs - drivers , fri - delivery major distruption.

by the sound of it, its been a planned underhanded dirty trick to demoralise the membership, and it seems to be working by the comments of some members. chances are they will vote ''no'' now, because they feel it may be pointless. after the miners strike, it was revealed that the government used every dirty trick in the book to beat the n.u.m. they were advised (of all people) by the electric board, that if they stockpiled coal that they would be beaten by starving them back. and the n.u.m. itself had membership that actually worked for thatchers government advising them of secret union meetings and plans, even tapping scargill & co phones. i wonder if our membership has any goverment 5th colomnists. billy or dave perhaps??,,,, if we dont get a massive yes we will all fall and the union will go down the same route as the n.u.m. feck!!!
