So an unnamed executive finally comes clean as to the motive of the dispute.
The executive said the dispute was a "tipping point" in a battle for the future of the Royal Mail.
The source continued: "This is the time. It cannot go on. This is the battle that was always going to come."The key battle is always the one over the future of the organisation. This is it. This is the tipping point. This is welcome to the real world. It is very important that people get it."

So it is a battle and a battle that according to this source RM are prepared to last months.
''One executive compared the stoppage to the miners' strike in the mid-1980s, which ended with workers drifting back to work.

The source said: "I think it has got many similarities [with that strike]."

So remember it seems they are out to destroy anything that gets in the way and that includes both the union and the bussiness if needed.!

WELL......WE CAN LAST FOR YEARS.....AND YOUR PENSION PLAN HAS JUST ADDED ANOTHER 5 TO THAT ......

Phillip ogilvie is wrong or at least misguided. Working 2 hours for a days pay does NOT happen, my guess is, he looks out of his window at 9am, sees his postman again at 11, "2 hours posting in the sun, sounds like a lovely job to me" its a 5am start the mail has to be sorted you know, 1pm finish, 100kg of mail, wind, rain, snow and yes sun..

First of all I work for royal mail and im a member of the cwu. My reason for this comment is firstly I wish to apologise to everyone who has been affected by this strike. It is NOT the intention of royal mail staff to simply annoy the public and demand more money. We do not get paid for striking and to date we have lost more money than any 2.5% pay offer etc etc. With this in mind I hope the public can understand that the issues we are striking about reach far deeper than our weekly pay packet. It concernes our long term worklife AND our retirement and most of all the infrastructure of the country. Dealing with the latter, should big business be allowed to run a service (remember that word?) that everyone in the country uses and is a vital lifeline for most businesses in the country for profit alone? depends on your political views I guess, but if the business credentials of the people running it are pretty poor (do some research on adam crozier yourself, PLEASE) should these people be allowed to carry on running a business that is owned by the governement, and in turn, the country. Remember, You, the public currently own the majority of royal mail, and YOU the public are the people suffering the most. The multi million pound banks, gas, water companies were told of the strikes weeks ago, the public werent. Returning to pensions, we are told by the governements own advisors that we need to make our own arrangements if we want a reasonable retirement. Many staff at royal mail are currently doing this and we are now being told the money is missing, or we might not get it. Where will this stop? how can these people who grant themselves massive pay rises also help themselves to massive pension funds (simplifying it I know) be allowed to continue? This is happening across the country, look at equitable life (please research this too) millions of people lost out, the person responsible for the "regrettable losses" took hundreds of thousands of pounds for himself before he left. We are also striking about royal mails plans for the future ie our future and the future of a public service. Without going into detail, 15 years ago royal mail was the 2nd most profitable company in the country making Â£m's. Everyone got their mail before 9.30 and the workers had a pension. Allan leighton and adam crozier appeared and within years royal mail was loosing something like Â£500m. Many blame the general economy but does this sound right to you? We are contantly told how stong the economy is, how our house prices are soaring, wages are up, prices are down etc until it comes to explaining the loss of millions of pounds, then its just the economy? Now royal mail looses millions and customers get their mail as late as 6pm, the company is in chaos and STILL no one asks questions? has anyone seen allan leighton/adam crozier explaining exactly what their plans are apart from "modernisation". There is no doubt royal mail need to modernise but plundering the pension fund and making staff cuts isnt the way. Incidentally allan leighton hasnt attended all the pay talks. Finally there are more money saving ideas on the horizon, MORE post office closures (is anyone asking where the money is going from the sale of these premises?) a new system called pegasus which you will hear more about in the next few months will cause chaos. Its been trialed in my area and its a massive failure. Despite this Royal mail are still pressing on with it. Hope this has explained the staffs point of view on the strikes and once again, heartfelt apologies to all who have been affected, please bear with us

I notice that the ones calling us idle and feckless beggars are either 1: students or 2: Owners of businesses who probably only pay the bare minimum to Pavel from Warsaw to boost their profits. Top post George, but theses bastards that read this don't give a monkey's..Or at least they won't until they get lumbered with a hefty increase in their bills if TNT or the like, have to deliver the final mile and pass on the charge to the utilities and then on to the customer...Blind blinkered and foolish to think we actually enjoy standing around in the cold on no pay trying to sort out the mess caused by the two twits at the top and Gordon Blair. I'd far rather be back at work earning my wages than inconvienencing the customers, but they won't see it that way. all they see is what the governemnt and the media want them to see.

Such a shame that it has come to this, RMs true colours and contempt for its workers becomming clearer all the time.To coin a phrase from the film "scum" - we may come second, but we`ll be the best f***ing second you`ve ever seen! Its so important that we keep support up after this huge backlog has been built up. Support the rolling strikes, get another little job elsewhere if necessary. Do the job properly.Christmas is looming and people will be going bonkers if they are unable to shop online. This is likely to be tough, but use any means open to you to do your bit. The gloves are off, but be clever, don`t do anything silly and imo keep to the official action. There is absolutly no need to go "all out" most just cant afford it, but rolling action can do the trick.This is a fight for our futures, one we cant really afford to lose.

Yes I agree , deep down I always new it was an idealogical fight ,the irony is they couldnt change anything without us, if we could just stay out indefinitely then it would not be like the miners strike because the mail would not be delivered ,simple as and they would lose, but doing the job properly will still tip it our way,us on the vans means attrition ,they want attrition they can have it!
