1.Who's going to sit and count the contents first to make sure it's fair?
Boxes from the mailcentre can contain anything from 10 catalogues to 300 loose letters and everything in between.

2.Surely that would mean in these days of working your paid hours the slow sorter would have more indoor work/time and less outdoor work/time than the supersorter.
Not really very motivational that flyer. :nervous

If you sort faster will you get more shares?
Are the standards for super sorter's pro rata?,if a full time super sorter sort's 40 a minute to qualify, can a p/t on 30 hours super sort 30 a min and be called a super sorter?
I shall be asking these questions at next weeks work time drivel.

I hope the future will bring in less manual sorting - then things will get fairer for all.

Swings and roundabouts, some days you get more, some you get less.

I'm not bothered if I have more indoor or outdoor time, it's all the same to me. If someone was taking an age to throw in their boxes every day then that's where testing comes in.

It seems to be accepted in RM that no matter how bad you are at your job, nothing will ever get said and nobody gets challenged. That's certainly the case in my office anyway.

I know.
Isn't it wonderful,we're very lucky.
It will change though and then we're all in trouble because everybody, including you is s**t at something to do with the job.
I'm a pretty good sorter,a decent prepper and not too shabby outdoors but for some reason I'm crap at making up D2D so if they ever come up with a test for that I'm screwed.

Porter's job the most highly prized in my office, it was I admit given to the slowest sorter/prepper but has since become a highly envied position. Basically he wonders round with a steel frame contraption carrying mail in trays to the frames, clears down the drop bags, bags his duty up, which is completely prepped, and clears off out.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

We went through a spell of this sorters/preppers/porters rubbish before it got scrapped - it only lasted a couple of months.

Manager said the most important job was the porter! I could see their point but I pointed out that there no point in porters if no mail was sorted for them to take and no point in taking it round to the frames if preppers had loads of mail still waiting to be thrown in.

There was talk of getting individual amounts to sort and when we did our x number of trays we could get off sorting but it never happened - raised lots of questions about how it would be organised so everyone gets equal amount etc.

We questioned what would stop someone just putting loads of mail in the wrong slot to get off sorting quicker - was told "you are a team so why would you do that?" our reply "if we are a team then why have individual workloads?"....

And so it went on round in circles!

In our office, if there's not enough super sorters, the porter has to sort and clear down

Just be a super slow porter Wandering around the office aimlessly chatting and commenting on other peoples inadequacies while the super sorters pump gallons of sweat in to there unisex shirts and managers plan to cut hours and increase their bonus.

OnAFlyer wrote:What's the difference to now, the faster sorters do loads more anyway. There are 20 year posties in my office who look at the boards for nearly every address despite going on IPS every day, it's a complete piss take. We'll be on group an hour, a couple of us will have rammed frames and when you get to these goons you pick out 3-4 letters per walk.

How can you do something day after day after day and never learn it? It gets on my tits.
Thats because when you get older your memory goes, thats a fact. Ive sorted packets for 9 years, and there`s still half the stuff I have to check. The reasons are mainly that ive never done the duties I dont know ,and the pressure of people having a go if you get them wrong. Its alright reading ips day in day out, but with 50 duties, theres a lot to remember, and things keep changing, streets moved here and there, PnL is another issue - the rounds ive done ive done in loops so I know its 1 of 2 duties, but not which one.
These people are 3 or 4 years older than me, around 40. I've worked with them for years in the same office and they've never picked it up, it's as though they're too retarded for anything at all to sink in.

You have to laugh at this forum sometimes (I'm not referring to your post here JCL), as soon as anyone mentions working faster than a snails pace they are mocked as a 'runner' who is costing jobs.

Yes people work at different speeds, I've no issue with that as long as they are working at a reasonable pace. But some of my colleagues are f*cking useless and come any sort of performance tests whatsoever are going to be looking for a new job.

How do you judge reasonable pace On a Flyer. Do you base it on your own personal ability? The fastest person in your office may assume rightly or wrongly that he/she is working at a reasonable pace, which in his/her mind may put you in the category that you are labelling some of your colleagues. I believe it was Fishtank in another thread who said that he is effective in all departments of postal work except prepping D2ds because he has no motivation to do them. Those who you describe as being useless may have the same mindset whilst prepping but may be extremely effective doing the outdoor side of the job, which it is unlikely you will witness. What I am trying to say is you should not judge a book and critic it by reading just one or two pages.

No, I judge it using common sense and a long term knowledge of the office and walks. Someone putting in 5-6 letters per minute on IPS, or taking 5 hours to do a walk that's known for being one of the shorter ones isn't working at a reasonable pace. Someone regularly taking 4 hours to prep a single walk isn't working at a reasonable pace.

The above are a couple of real life examples from my office that happen regularly with the same staff.
