A postal worker and Communication Workers Union (CWU) rep, who experienced bullying at work has received £4,000 in a settlement from Royal Mail.
Bullying at work
The postal worker was employed by Royal Mail for 26 years before he suffered from workplace stress.
The workplace stress began after he took a grievance out against a manager. This is where a formal complaint is made to an employer, and was made because of his manager’s behaviour towards him regarding his sick leave. The grievance was upheld.
The bullying that took place after the grievance included lewd graffiti in the toilet of his workplace about his family. He was also given the silent treatment by fellow colleagues and had derogatory comments made to him.
Royal Mail were made aware of the harassment. However, they failed to deal with it properly and as a result, the postal worker suffered absences from work and a psychological injury.
Simpson Millar LLP steps in on workplace stress and bullying at work
When the postal worker approached Simpson Millar LLP, we acted quickly to ensure that his claim was made before reaching the 3 year time limit. A medical expert assessed his psychological injuries and confirmed that he was suffering from depression as a result of the bullying at work.
Initially, Royal Mail denied responsibility and made a low offer. We managed to increase the offer to £4,000 which reflected the psychological injury and loss of earnings that he had been subjected to.
Bullying at work and workplace stress can have a real impact on your physical, emotional and financial wellbeing. At Simpson Millar LLP, we always ensure that we act in your best interests and fight for the compensation you're entitled to.

For the treatment this man received and the effect on his health £4k is a derogatory amount, I simply don't understand who calculates these compensation payments.Chelseablue wrote:On a flyer ,,,please explain ,,?

The sad fact is, very little B&H gets dealt with properly.
Most is swept under the carpet to protect the offending manager (and most is by managers, and not between posties as Moya claims).
And the victim? Their situation just gets worse.
Just plain wrong.
Glad he got a positive outcome, but the amount was paltry.
