Labour tops refuse to pledge renationalisation
As one rep at the brum briefing asked, why doesn't the union ear the way and set up a new, fighting working class party?
"Royal Mail sell-off: Chuka Umunna on Labour policy
6 hours ago
Labour will not pledge to renationalise the Royal Mail as it would be "completely irresponsible" and "like writing a blank cheque" said the shadow business secretary.
Chuka Umunna said it was not known how much the coalition government would raise from its planned sell-off, and added Labour aimed to be "fiscally responsible government and that is why I am not prepared to do that."

Re: Labour tops refuse to pledge renationalisation
That just confirms what I have believed these last few years.
A working man/woman who votes Labour nowadays, are Turkeys voting for Christmas.
Labour is no longer a party for working people to vote for.
I vote for the Green Party, and it seems that won't be changing any time soon.

Renationalisation hasn't been Labour Party policy for decades, why would they start now?
Agree, not a party for the average working person, though neither are the ludicrous fluffy Greens...

True on both counts Tman especially the Gremne - look at Brighton where they attacked bin workers. - they're just little Lib Dems in green clothers.Tman wrote:Renationalisation hasn't been Labour Party policy for decades, why would they start now?

Spot on about Labour on renationalisation too. But it has to be said becasue one of the main policy of the CWU leadership, to avoid linking privatisation to industrial action, is to campaign for labour to renationalise Royal Mail as an alternative. It's true that that would be a massive blow to a sell off, the bad news is there's no way Miliband, Balls and Umma would do it. Under Blair the Labour Conference passed motions to renationalise the railways, the government just ignored them, so even if the conference coming up passes the CWU motion (itself unlikely) it commits Labour to nothing - investors know that so it could have little impact. We'll know soon enough.
We should all join left unity, 10,000 people have signed the appeal for a new party to defend the welfare state and NHS and defeat austerity, with local groups set up all over the country. Get in touch with yours and get involved, and let's get the trade union movement, our CWU included, to break from Labour to found another a new party. http://www.leftunity.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Labour tops refuse to pledge renationalisation
Yes ,but you have to know where The Labour party came from ,the trade union movement. Before that the unions were pushing for the liberals realising they wernt going to do much for the working man and they needed a representation of their own.Tman wrote:Renationalisation hasn't been Labour Party policy for decades, why would they start now?
