transfer to wales

Hello,
I have been working for Royal Mail as a postman since January 2013 and as my wife got a job offer in South Wales I've asked for a transfer in August.
Nothing has happened yet but I've been to an interview (despistes the fact that I am already doing the job well, according to my manager and the fact that i travelled 300 miles to show my motivation) last week in Aberdare and my application was declined.
i don't know what to do now...
can anybody help?

Assuming that your marriage is more important than your employment with Royal Mail you might have to consider if you could both live on your wife's, presumably higher, income and if not what other employment opportunities there might be in or near Aberdare, a shepherd perhaps as you will already be used to a mainly outdoor job. I'm assuming you're looking in the Aberdare area 'cause that's where you will be settling .......... well as you're aware it's not such a big place.
If you are willing to travel and have a driving licence i know of a few vacancies at Newport East Office. You don't mention which postal area you're coming from, 'cause sometimes people from the local area do get priority.

Thanks for this... I've put my name down for the position in Newport. We haven't settled down on where we'd live exactly. at the moment she is in Beddau and we'll get a house depending on where i end up...

You had an interview for a transfer? Not heard of that before. I got a transfer a few years ago, I just put my name on the waiting list for the office concerned, had to wait about 6 months.

I thought as long as your old gaffer didn't tell your new lot that you had a penchant for nicking mail, you were home and hosed.

yeah i had to go for an interview 500 miles away from home. 2 jobs and i didn't get one!

i tried for a transfer to wales in 1999 i moved to wales in 2000 and left RM in 2001 as i could not get a transfer.
i spent a year travelling and staying with inlaws while waiting for a transfer, even offered to go part time, i left RM in 2001 when the xmas before they took on a part timer, ( i made enquiries to wether i could transfer pt to do this xmas job TOLD NO), who was supposed to be temporary and is still employed ther 13 tears later.
i applied for a job in that office in 2002 and got taken on pt and am now full time with 12 yers service ( i had over14 years sevice prior applying for a transfer)
i hope you have better luck.....................i lost 14 years senioity

I'm not too sure of the time constraints but I'm sure your previous service should count for seniority and holiday entitlement - give HR a ring it may pay dividends.

holidays sorted got £2000+ back dated, local rep said no to seniority said its a local thing

Seb, Two days ago it was just 300 miles, not 500.
It might be a good idea for you to ascertain, by means of a Freedom of Information request if necessary, if the five successful candidates were all Welsh and if they were to then challenge Royal Mail for discrimination contrary to the Race Relations Act.

Hold on we've had this before,and I can't remember which way round it was,holiday or seniority,or both,Stormproof had this and Fish would know as well.
Local things mean f**k all as well for national agreements like this.
