They can't sack you, but they will probably pick on you for everything they can pin on you. They will also throw the flexibility thing at you.
Just tell them to do one and keep your head down.

Re: Can you be sacked for not working over your time?
There is no 'we ask that you are available for overtime' clause in any contract. You are contracted for set hours. They cannot fire you for refusing to do extra work, whether that be paid or otherwise. They would be laughed out of en employment tribunal for suggesting otherwise. Of course they rely on workers not knowing their basic rights when making these threats, as is obviously the case here.Jimmy Carr`s laugh wrote:To be fair to Harrap, the new PT contracts are different from us FT guys, and they do ask that you be available for OT, and that you must be able to drive. I cant do either, so its a good job I started 21 years ago. 2 guys at our place, ex army, had interviews with flying colours, but both had problems with OT as 1 had kids and the other had a 2nd job. Both where knocked back in favour of 2 doleys who`d work 90hrs a week if they could.BernardBresslaw wrote:You couldn't be more full of shite.Harrap wrote:our DOM blatentley stated to an employee, infront of other employees and with our union rep standing by his side, and i quote "if you are not willing to work overtime you should empty your locker and find another job" the union rep didnt react as that statement was followed by "read your contract as it states 'you will be required to do overtime occaisionally' " so be careful, the postie in question had no option but to leave!
OP I presumed you were a manager trying to spread false fear, given your lack of previous posting history. I apologise if this is not the case.

ive cut off for years and ive never been testedAcca Dacca wrote:Yes you need to follow the correct procedure. Our DOM kept changing it at a whim from 'tell me before you tie down/tell me before you leave the building/phone before 1/phone before 12.30/if you take it all out and bring anything back its wilful delay'piranha wrote:Just tell dom before you go out that you won't be able to finish and you want to finish on time. Simples.
Be prepared to be tested, tested and tested again afterwards though. And watched like a hawk. Do your job right and you have nothing to worry about.

Me neither, the only people tested in our office are the ones that are slow as hell. If you're decent at your job you can cut off when it's busy and managers are fine about it.bringon4dayweeks wrote:ive cut off for years and ive never been testedAcca Dacca wrote:Yes you need to follow the correct procedure.
