I can see no benefits to the employee and whilst a flexible workforce is needed to take account of seasonal fluctuations an institution like Royal Mail should not be resorting to this type of contract. This advert (and I expect many more like it around the country) just gives a peek into a post privatised business:

Re: RM - Zero Hour Contracts
I agree, I don't know why they don't offer a 15 hour flexible contact, anything is better than zero hour! Zero hour should be illegal IMO and i'm sad that Royal Mail are starting to use them.

Starting to use them?!
What else have Angard contracts been but zero hours?
What were the pre-Angard RM casuals "contracts"?

Re: RM - Zero Hour Contracts
Royal Mail have used zero hours contracts for years. Before Royal Mail created/devised Angard they employed their own casual resources directly on zero hours contracts on a 12 week on 2 week off basis - with no guarantee of being taken back on after the 2 week break.
