PEOPLE living in a Winchester neighbourhood held an annual street party in memory of a popular local resident.

The fourth Old Highcliffe Street Party was held in Cathedral View with around 100 people enjoying the fine weather, food, drink and company.

The event last Sunday is held to remember Dennis Kimber, a retired postman, who died in 2010, aged 52. A toast was raised in his memory.

One of the organisers, Vivian Austin, said the event attracted a variety of people from one-month old twins Marcus and Lydia, 95-year-old Bob Leadbetter and an Army officer on leave from Afghanistan.

She said: “It has become a bit of a tradition now and when people move into the square, it's become a bit of a selling point to demonstrate what a great community it is!”

The square comprises Cathedral View, St Catherine’s Road, Canute Road and Highcliffe Road.

Had he still been alive Ted Heath from nearby 'Arundells' in Cathedral's Close might have joined the 'variety of people'.
