Police say nothing stolen from inside the van
A ROYAL Mail van was stolen in a burglary in Teesside over the weekend.
Police said they did not believe anything was taken from the van, which disappeared overnight between 11pm Saturday August and 7.30am on Sunday September 1.
Keys to the property, along with the keys to the householders’ vehicles, were taken.
The red Royal Mail van, which was parked outside the property, was stolen and recovered later on Bolckow Industrial Estate in the Grangetown area.
A police spokeswoman said it was not believed that anything was stolen from inside the van.
Anyone who may have information regarding the burglary or anyone who may have seen the Royal Mail van in the area of Bolckow Industrial estate is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Kenneth Clark of Stockton CID on the non-emergency 101 number or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Surely all that should be in a van overnight should be a spare wheel and a trolley or trollies

With all the over night retentions that happen, which are increasing daily, this was inevitable.
Hopefully, the postie in question followed all the rules, and will therefore not be liable.
(Though there is the possibility of the blame heading in their direction, no matter the circumstances).

More likely that Royal mail will charge him for all the oil that's dripped out of it on to his drive.Lincox wrote:Hope he is charging Royal Mail overnight parking fees.

I refuse to take responsibility for parking a van outside my house on H&S grounds and the fact I do not want to be reminded of work when I am at home.
Like somebody said it was only a matter of time, who knows the next one might be a targeted aggravated burglary to steal the keys to the van along with personal valuables in the home and a family traumatised. having a van outside your house is like painting a bullseye on the door, it draws attention to you.

I have been asked about half a dozen times to take a van home, but refuse.NWpostie wrote:I refuse to take responsibility for parking a van outside my house on H&S grounds and the fact I do not want to be reminded of work when I am at home.

There are benefits, like free travel to and from work, saving money.
But it also acts as an advertisement, and will let people know when you are in/out, on holiday etc.
So may also increase other more personal problems, and make you/your house/family a target, to robbers, or a disgruntled customer.....

"will let people know when you are in/out, on holiday" - no more so than ones own car parked outside the house, and millions of motorists risk that.
"a disgruntled customer" would most likely target a uniformed postman on delivery, not "you/your house/family" or even the van

I think I would rather play the grey man in my road than have free travel to work, my PERSEC is more important to me.

A nondescript grey, red, blue or any other colour car is hardly memorable when a tea-leaf is scouting an area - a Red Royal Mail liveried van most certainly is memorable in my opinion.Lounge Lizard wrote:"will let people know when you are in/out, on holiday" - no more so than ones own car parked outside the house, and millions of motorists risk that.![]()
Tell that to the postie who was assaulted in his own home in Huddersfield around 9 years ago - apparently the customer was upset he hadn't got a signed for packet. No van at the address, but everyone local knew where he lived.Lounge Lizard wrote:"a disgruntled customer" would most likely target a uniformed postman on delivery, not "you/your house/family" or even the van

I was thinking of all the other liveried vans on residential drives, and all the posh cars more noticeable than a clapped out old Vauxhall Combo.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Lounge Lizard wrote: "free travel to and from work, saving money"![]()

I hadn't heard of the postie who was assaulted in his own home in Huddersfield around 9 years ago, before I worked for RM, which was of course terrible although thankfully not a commonplace incident.
These haven't been concerns of mine but I would of course expect the wishes of those NOT wanting to take a RM van home to be respected by management.
