Postcomm

Post by Broxi51 »

Have just sent this email to postcomm. Dont expect any reply but I feel that they are just as much to blame
as the Government, Leighton & Crozier.

Dear Sir/Madam
Please can you tell me how you are protecting the USO.
As far as I am aware Royal Mail are on strike and no other courier firm has tried to establish
a nationwide delivery service to the full extent that Royal Mail has.
What are you doing to get the deliveries out as the USO is defined?
Basically you cannot do anything since Royal Mail is holding the cards
and will continue to hold the cards until you increase the price of the final mile and make it profitable for other companies to create a network able to carry out the USO.
Will that be when you release the shackles and allow Royal Mail to cut prices in order to attract business?
Realistically you are a power who is powerless. A pathetic version of what could have been.
Never mind you at least can continue to milk us taxpayers to keep you all cosy in your jobs.
Once the strike is over then perhaps you can start to issue your directives and
continue to allow Royal Mail to lose money and in turn jeopardise the one thing that you were created to keep.
The USO. :mad

Well done

Could it be that the definition of USO will change. At present it is as I understand, a 24 hour service. Under the current proposals of Royal Mail, The USO could be once a week which is still a USO, only the customer will be aware of the difference.

I think it will change but first Royal Mail, the government & postcomm have to wear the public down and get them pi**ed off with us posties so that they can then deploy a special super new plan that will in effect cost more, stop daily deliveries in rural areas and paint it in a lovely mellow colour. Once public support goes for the postal system & Royal Mail that is when the change will come.

Please tell me that you are joking about zonal pricing! I know that we are loosing lots of money by delivering to rural areas daily. But the fact is, that they rely on their post just as much as city dwellers. If we ever loose the USO, it will be a sad day for the Country.

I know that :lfo and :cfo just want the maximum profits available, but we are trying to provide a service to the public here. I know that we have to make a profit, as we are a commercial business now. But that's why we should be trying to force Postcomm to make the USO a contractual obligation for our competitors too. Wether they acieve that through downstream access, or through their own networks. Not that they stand ANY chance of pulling it off without us.

We also need to try to get them to allow us to set a REALISTIC price for downstream access, so that it becomes financially viable.

POSTCOMM & USO

Post by mailjock »

When I suffer from insomnia I read the postcomm website.

A real gem recently is their investiagtion into the next 10 years. They have checked all round the world to see what other postal services have done to save money and the two things they have come up with are quite interesting.

One is having mail trunking out-sourced or franchised. The other is rural deliveries. They wax lyrical about the benefits of franchising it out to people who will also deliver milk, groceries and god knows what else to rural customers.

But the small print gives it all away - it would appear this 'modernisation' comes at a price to the customer never mind us - and it's the number of deliveries per week. Surprise, surprise but in a lot of the countries investigated the mail only gets delivered 3 or 4 times a week.

So I think the delivery frequency for the USO will be reduced, probably in stages, to prepare for the franchising out of rural deliveries.

But what the hell - it'll cut costs and make more profits and make RM more attractive from a selling point of view. Posties and customers - well bugger them they're standing in the way of modernisation.

What the hell are all the MPs for rural areas doing, sitting on their fat-cat asses and not demanding that services be protected. If the USO goes or is diminished for rural areas then we really have a two-tier society in this country as not everyone who lives in the country is loaded and many don't have cars and are already suffering the loss of their Post Office and bus services.

After that we are going to build walls round our towns and cities and keep the yokels out altogether! That'll teach em to live in rural areas!

Haven't they already tried that 'the milkman will deliver the mail' bollox. Failed abysmally.
When will postcomm learn, the only way to protect the USO is for 1 ''company'' to deliver the mail. No cherry picking by TNT in cities. The postal service is exactly that, A SERVICE.

IF USO MEANS 24 HOURS, SURELY THIS STOPPING OF SUNDAY COLLECTIONS MUST BREAK SOME KIND OF AGREEMENT? OR AM I JUST NUTS?

AND ALSO IF I SEND A LETTER TO MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOUR AND SEND A LETTER TO SOMEONE IN JOHN O'GROATS, I EXPECT THEM TO BE TREATED THE SAME! BOTH STAMPS PRICED THE SAME! DELIVERED AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE! THROUGH THERE LETTERBOXES!

AND BE DELIVERED BY US!!!

SO THERE, AND THERE AGAIN!

:so there

Maggie Thatcher wanted zonal pricing when she was in power. When we failed to get privatised by public outcry, she trebled the tax RM had to pay per year!

Im pretty sure the USO means a delivery to every address
6 days a week....Itll take years for the competiton to set up
a network like this, although we (RM) seem to be doing
everything they can to make it easy for them, later starts
etc :d'oh!

The competition aren't going to set up a delivery organisation - like some smooth talking pimp RM are going to sell YOUR services to deliver their mail. Like most things the USO will be a thing of the past and so will Saturday delivery. True to form zonal pricing is only a footprint away once the USO has gone.
