[quoteHas anyone asked a customer to rewrite their signature because it's just a squiggle?

I did once , the owner was not best pleased , i just said my manager says we need to be able to read it , that was in the days of no pda's ,
now some of the folks on my firm's delivery put anything down , that is when the PDA works

Haha, for a second I thought someone uncovered the artistic signature I made for one of my own packets. I noticed it gives you a lot of virtual ink so you can doodle a bit and still sign it properly. Look, we have to entertain ourselves somehow
The machine stops.

You can't read what my signature says, so would you keep asking me to redo it? Because I'd tell you to f*ck off.bigcol wrote:If you can't read it it's not a signature.jagger wrote:Surely you can't most people's name from their signature.bigcol wrote:If you can't read their name from it it isn't a valid signature and you should get them to do it again.

Signature
A mark or sign made by an individual on an instrument or document to signify knowledge, approval, acceptance, or obligation.
The term signature is generally understood to mean the signing of a written document with one's own hand. However, it is not critical that a signature actually be written by hand for it to be legally valid. It may, for example, be typewritten, engraved, or stamped. The purpose of a signature is to authenticate a writing, or provide notice of its source, and to bind the individual signing the writing by the provisions contained in the document.
Because a signature can obligate a party to terms of a contract or verify that the person intended to make a last will and testament, the law has developed rules that govern what constitutes a legally valid signature. The Internet and other forms of telecommunication have created the need to transact legally binding agreements electronically. Almost all states have passed laws that recognize the validity of "digital signatures."
Requisites and Validity
When an instrument must be signed, it is ordinarily adequate if the signature is made in any commonly used manner. Variations between the signature and the name appearing in the body of the instrument do not automatically invalidate the instrument.
In the absence of a statutory prohibition, an individual can use any character, symbol, figure, or designation he wishes to adopt as a signature

Re: What do you do if.....
I can’t read the signature
Occasionally handwriting is difficult to read. If this is causing a problem for you, and you need further assistance please call 08459 272 100.
Here is some information about how we collect signatures and explanations of problems that occasionally arise:
If the signature was captured using a Postal Digital Assistant (PDA)
We ask the recipient for their name and we type it into the PDA. We then ask the recipient to sign the screen. Sometimes a person’s handwriting is illegible and an image captured on a PDA will always differ slightly from signatures written on paper or card. We do apologise, and hope you will understand that the clarity of handwriting does vary amongst individuals.

If the signature was captured using a confirmation of delivery card
We ask the recipient to sign and print their name on our confirmation of delivery card. Again, we do apologise, and hope you will understand that the clarity of handwriting does vary amongst individuals. On rare occasions, the delivery card may have been damaged in transit, making it either unavailable or difficult to read. In equally rare circumstances our scanning equipment may have had problems capturing the image correctly, which could again result in the signature being illegible.
