Postal workers in Plymouth are set to stage a mass walk out of around 500 workers.
Postal chaos now looms at six of the city's postcode area Royal Mail Delivery Offices following the ballot.
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) said members had voted overwhelmingly in favour of the strike – in some cases unanimously.
Officials said the dispute, over national service agreements and allegations of bullying, will be the biggest in city history
Union representatives will now meet to agree the next steps with notice of any action expected to be given to Royal Mail within a week.
CWU divisional representative Chris Webb said: "We are seeing a postal service being run into the ground and shaped for privatisation by an aggressive employer. We will not stand by and tolerate this any longer."
"The phenomenal strength of these yes votes will send a clear signal of intent to Royal Mail. Postal Workers have not taken this course of action lightly but in order to defend our members we will not hesitate to call strike action if it is needed."

Angry Plymouth postal workers vote for strike action

POSTAL chaos looms in Plymouth following a "record" number of votes in favour of strike action by the city's Royal Mail workers.
The six Plymouth postcode area Royal Mail Delivery Offices balloted for industrial action by the Communication Workers Union have all returned huge votes in favour of striking, it was revealed last night.
The votes, based on an average turnout of almost 70 per cent, ranged from 85 per cent saying 'yes', with two offices even returning 100 per cent votes in favour of industrial action.
Communication Workers Union (CWU) representatives will now meet to agree the next steps with notice of any action expected to be given to Royal Mail within a week.
Chris Webb, CWU divisional representative, said: "The phenomenal strength of these yes votes will send a clear signal of intent to Royal Mail.
"Postal workers have not taken this course of action lightly but in order to defend our members we will not hesitate to call strike action if it is needed.
"We are seeing a postal service being run into the ground and shaped for privatisation by an aggressive employer. We will not stand by and tolerate this any longer."
The ballots were called in response to postal workers claims of bullying in addition to the Union accusing Royal Mail of breaching several National Agreements.
If the strike goes ahead it will be the biggest ever local dispute in the Plymouth area affecting around 500 workers.
Rhys Jones, a spokesman for Royal Mail said: "The ballot result is disappointing, however we remain fully committed to the process of trying to resolve our colleagues' concerns by continuing to follow the national jointly agreed framework with the Communication Workers Union (CWU).
"We urge the CWU to continue working with us rather than launch ballots for industrial action which can only worry our customers and damage our drive to build a strong and sustainable future."

The Royal Mail record has stuck again, For gods sake someone lend them a sharper needle, without the little bit of fluff on the end of it.

Jumping the gun again, why can't they wait until the national dispute kicks off and put their grievances on the agenda with CWU HQ to resolve with Postal HQ ?

It sounds like a local issue, or rather that the CWU want to concentrate on pay and privatisation, and not push B&h during the National action.Red Robbo wrote:Jumping the gun again, why can't they wait until the national dispute kicks off and put their grievances on the agenda with CWU HQ to resolve with Postal HQ ?

Re: Biggest ever postal strike looms in Plymouth
That may be the case Teebs, but it seems to me that CWU have put a bag over their head when it comes to dealing with B&H. I am sure that the majority of members consider this to be the most serious problem within Royal Mail and more important to get sorted than pay. It is destroying members confidence, marriage and social lives and should not be allowed once again to be put on the back burner. Until Moya Greene and the CWU come out in public and admit that this is a serious situation and intend to eradicate it within a given timescale, these local disputes will continue and fester.

Re: Biggest ever postal strike looms in Plymouth
Is there a meeting in couple of weeks time in Birmingham with all the local reps ,I understand Dave and Moya will be there as well, why can't they put their case forward here about the bullying & harassment instead of striking ?

Soft southern shites?
Maybe not!
We should not let the bigger issues over shadow this.
At least they have the Bolox to do something about it.
