LTB 560/13 National Briefing - 2nd September 2013

No. 560/13
Ref: 67000
Date: 14th August 2013

To: All Branches with Postal Members

Dear Colleague

National Briefing – 2nd September 2013

The Union will be holding a National Briefing on the 2nd September 2013 to update Senior Representatives on privatisation and talks with the Company over Pay, Pensions, Legal Protections and the Company’s future strategy.

The Briefing also coincides with a Special Parliamentary debate on Privatisation and we anticipate the Government may take this opportunity to set out further details on their plans.

The CWU will be issuing an appropriate press release for this debate and the Union will be undertaking further activities to support our Campaign. Details of these will be issued in due course.

Attendance at this Briefing is for those Representatives who would normally attend such an event from Royal Mail, Post Office Limited, Parcelforce, ROMEC and Quadrant. The venue will be at Central Hall, Storey's Gate, Westminster, London SW1H 9NH and the Briefing will commence at 1pm and conclude no later than 3.30pm. The Royal Mail Group had been advised of this Briefing and we expect the normal arrangements to apply.

Any enquiries on the above LTB should be addressed to the DGS (P) Department.

Yours sincerely

Dave Ward
Deputy General Secretary (P)

Sounds like the ideal occasion to announce something of importance.
Timescales need to be addressed though, the weeks keep drifting by with no apparent sense of urgency, why wait another 3 weeks?
Why not next week? :cuppa

by the time Dave Ward has sorted something out about the direction on which way the union is going,,, Royal Mail will have been privatized....
Action is needed now............. and by then it will be getting on for 6 months, without any pay rise, and back pay from April.

Strange thing is for the first time in a very very long time our sub rep was visited by a full time union bod today. Speaking about - union membership! For me a bit late in the day - our membership is barely over two thirds and the FT/PT split about 60/40 - this is a situation that should have been addressed a long time ago.

The reason it's not next week is that, after BT2010, they're not sure that they'd get a yes vote....

Can't say I blame them, it'll take me a lot of convincing to vote yes after the last deal that Billy brokered.

I'm not even wondering.
They aren't.
Partly I suspect that's because the leadership are constantly surrounded by "like minds" which if you're not careful can distort the true picture.
If you have a Postal Forum and invite 500 reps then obviously it's mostly a home crowd.

Is this the place where we can expect a National Industrial Ballot or not? I am sick of constant delays we need to talk but that time has ended now we need action and NOW!

Quite right about privatization, Could be done by November pension changes will be in place fairly soon then whats left to strike for, the strings on the pay deal !!!
The union seem to be lacking urgency and direction sleepwalking into the inevitable, boycotting the competitors mail and Red balloons what a farce!! beginning to think that my subs are a waste of money.

All will be revealed on Monday at 1 o clock. We have to get the membership details right and offices have to ensure they have membership meetings. Some offices are good to go , plenty more need some more work.

This is not just about stopping the privatisation as I think now some of the company will be sold. it's about ensuring that there is no outsourcing , stop franchising , no two tier workforce and a whole host of things.

It's a bit late to be getting the "membership" right, the union was warned time and again that membership was a problem and their answer - raise the subscription instead of recruiting.

When you say "some of the company" are we talking a partial flotation or hiving off part of the company - and what makes you think only part of the company, is there a little compromise going on in the background which will be part of another interim agreement? You aren't joking when you say it's not just about the sell off but you only mention things reflecting that. What about pay, work load and bullying and harassment which also need addressing. Doing a deal on franchising et al is NOT a victory it may well protect union involvement and in part the workforce but these other issues are more important to the workforce.
