How many do you have in the callers Marshall?marshallmercury wrote:Yes I can see it would be difficult if docket left items are not coming back until that time. All our deliveries are back by half two. Yes we are a p&l office with about 60 deliveries.dvbuk55 wrote:So do we but many of our P&L bods don't get back until 5ish - they can just about manage to get them on the shelf let alone record everything - and they don't always manage that - there's anything between 40 and 100 tracked back every day. There's certainly scope for improvement and that's for sure but there's no way they'll put more hours in.marshallmercury wrote:I forgot to say that we do put 24 hours on the back of our dockets as standard. That way everything is on the system before customers call in for their items.

You probably save time having a comprehensive system, it's a ball ache surfing the shelves even though they're in date order.marshallmercury wrote:Only 1 for most of the day.

docket left
- 2 in our callers office/locker,they tried to cut hours but havent succeeded yet.not a danger of 1 person managing redelivery's, writing out customs/surcharges,chalking up endless recorded and serving packets via N/Ls that a team of psychiatrists couldnt comprehend and then scanning and filing everything back in.

Yes it does seem to work well. I dont think i could work in there too often if i had to keep searching through mountains of parcels to find each one, i would be too worried about the growing queue. So i take my hat off to you guys that have to do that.dvbuk55 wrote:You probably save time having a comprehensive system, it's a ball ache surfing the shelves even though they're in date order.marshallmercury wrote:Only 1 for most of the day.

Well I can't claim to be a martyr marshall - I work in the locker and only help out in the callers when I have time, as my working day finishes at 11.15 I only do a short time and not every day and not at the busiest times, though I used to work in the callers in the day but the workload was nothing like it is now.marshallmercury wrote:Yes it does seem to work well. Re: Callers Office Assistant
used to do that job. bloody hated it, "He didn`t knock my door" "sorry sir/madam but there`s a huge difference to him not knocking to you not hearing"
"why isn`t my packet back yet? " two bloody hours after the docket was left!!!
and my favourite "why do I need ID this card was put through my door?" you couldn`t bloody make it up.

The funniest ones are the ones that kick off at you about being in and the postie didn't knock. You then say "I am not surprised the postie didn't knock" as you hand back......

Re: Callers Office Assistant
I worked in there today and really enjoyed it! We had a few shitty people come in with not the right ID so you had to turn them away, people coming in with no slips, giving just their address then expecting you to search through over 3000+ parcels. Then there were slips not filled in properly so you spent ages looking in the wrong place only to get dirty looks when you did eventually find it. It really does make you appreciate how important it is to fill out the cards properly in the first place. I know myself I have put wrong dates on or accidently ticked the wrong box not knowing what grief it can cause when looking for a parcel.

marshallmercury wrote:At our callers office window we have a computer with an Enquiry office retrieval system on it. When the docket lefts are brought back they are entered on the computer. Name/Address/Parcel or Tracked or Special delivery etc. Then each item is given a number and put on the shelves in number order. Then when someone calls for a docket left you enter their address into the program and find the latest entry for them and get the item number. Then you just go to the shelf and get the item for them. Whole process takes about 30 secs.dvbuk55 wrote:What retrieval system?
You've either got too much time on your hands or you are all ex RM gaffers to come up with that system....30 seconds ....really...what is wrong with collecting the 739 card off the customer...and going directly to where the item should be?

Thats the crux of the problem - going to where the item should be.postypie wrote:marshallmercury wrote:At our callers office window we have a computer with an Enquiry office retrieval system on it. Some of our posties fill in a sheet with brief details of what they bring back, others don't. So you look like a real mug when a customer brings their recorded delivery 739 into the office, and you can't find their parcel - nor can you find any entry on the returns sheet.
So who nicked it ?
I am no longer a number :-)
