Some 110 post workers in Bridgwater delivery office, Somerset, have struck for two more days in their continuing dispute. This takes the total to seven.
The workers are members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU). They struck on Monday of this week and Saturday of last week over allegations of management bullying and the imposition of cuts by Royal Mail.
Saturday’s picket saw a solid turnout of 40 strikers.
“It’s been a great picket, with great morale.” CWU shop steward Dave Chapple told Socialist Worker.
“The support we’ve received has been great, it’s helped a lot. We’ve got talks on Wednesday, but we think Royal Mail is shocked by the support we’ve received.”
Dave Wilshire, CWU Bristol branch secretary told Socialist Worker, “On Monday it was a very strong turnout of about 60 people. Workers are in it for the long haul and they are determined to win.”
The workers are set to strike again on Saturday of this week
CWU members at Weston Super Mare delivery office are also set to be out that day in a seperate dispute. It is the first strike there in 20 years.
Workers are furious at Tory plans to sell off Royal Mail.
Even the National Federation of SubPostmasters has told its members in Post Offices not to handle publicity leaflets on buying shares in Royal Mail.
The workers at Bridgwater are looking to escalate further and go out for a whole week in September.

Royal mail wants to slash 380 jobs at its Portsmouth processing centre and move the work to Eastleigh, 20 miles away.
Portsmouth CWU branch secretary Ruth Harris told Socialist Worker, “Royal Mail is treating us and the workers with absolute contempt.
“Members are meeting to decide what to do”.

unite asking managers not to cross picket
Email knocking about in our d.o this morning, caught a glimpse. It stated that we (unite) ask managers to support the situation at bridgewater by not crossing the line and completing work. Any pressure from RM to force managers acrosss the line should be reported blah blah....
I should add this was sent to a manager
Ooo interesting

Re: unite asking managers not to cross picket
I bet the CMA don't ask the managers not to cross the picket line at Bridgewater.ronpetetrevchris wrote:Email knocking about in our d.o this morning, caught a glimpse.
