A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attack on a postman on the Bellamy Road Estate yesterday.

The 59-year-old postie was doing his rounds on Sharratt Court on the Mansfield estate around 10am yesterday (12th August) when he was threatened with a screwdriver and his mobile phone was taken.

The 27-year-old was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Man charged with Bellamy Road Estate postman attack

A 27-year-old man has been charged with robbery after attacking a postman with a screwdriver.

William Gamble, of no fixed address, will appear at Mansfield Magistrates Court tomorrow charged with the attack which took place on Monday.

A 59-year-old postman was threatened and had his mobile phone stolen while doing his rounds on Sharratt Court on the Bellamy Road Estate in Mansfield.

Nick Martens, Royal Mail spokesman, said: “A postman in the Mansfield Delivery Office was attacked yesterday (Monday) while on his delivery round in the Bellamy Road Estate area. The police are involved in this matter and we would ask anyone with information to contact them directly.”

Mansfield postman threat accused is remanded in custody

A Mansfield man who is charged with robbing a postman and threatening him with a screwdriver has been remanded in custody.

William Joseph Gamble (27) of Southwell Road West, is accused of taking a mobile phone from the postman on Monday 12th August.

Already in custody, Gamble spoke to confirm his name during the hearing at Manfield Magisrates’ Court.

In a brief outline of the case, prosecutor Robert Carr, said it was alleged that Gamble had threatened to stab the postman at around 9.15am on Sharratt Court , unless he handed over money. He eventually gave him his LG phone.

Gamble did not enter a plea, and did not apply for bail.

He is scheduled to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 29th August.
