Re: Any updates on POMC?
Quote from mail centre review team lead at last nights meeting "This is not about saving money and MUST NOT have any impact on the quality of service we give to our customers, this is about managing the decline in mail volumes". What strikes me as funny is that they've not done any work on our sorting office floor to see how much space inward PDC bullrings take up etc. and have not been to SOMC to see if we will fit in, nor have they done any work on things like van runs or how long it takes to get from Eastleigh to Bognor Regis being the furthest PDO from the MC, or the fact that its only WIghtlink in Pompey that still runs night sailings to the Island to actually get the processed mail over there, this is all worked on the fact that in 2009 SOMC processed more mail than SOMC and POMC do now, so its gotta work right? The mix has changed folks, packets (parcels) are our main thing now and that takes space, talk is that it won't matter about late IOW arrivals on outward because they'll get Ryde and Newport to be OVO,s again, the outcome of this review was decided before it even started, we don't need to move in with SOMC we need a new sorting office, all the mail that has migrated to SOMC 2c etc. could then be brought back to us, plenty of work and plenty of jobs, but then that would be too simple and probably save them more money in the long run, but this is RM right? Never gonna happen

Moving is part of the job these days and many have shut and new offices opened in the middle of nowhere. It's happened to me twice but I suppose if you live the Chichester side of Portsmouth and you get re located to Southampton your get the £20000 travel money.

You might be right I thought it was further away Portsmouth to Southampton. I got the maximum but it was 28 miles office to office..

Moving shouldn't be part of the job mate. I'm from Pompey and want to work in Pompey. Don't get much simpler do it?cloherty1976 wrote:Moving is part of the job these days and many have shut and new offices opened in the middle of nowhere. Re: Any updates on POMC?
Doubtful, I can't see RM keeping either IMPs or CFCs (what does POMC currently have in terms of machines?) just to process the last bit when it would then have to be forwarded onto SOMC to enter the main network (sent off to RDCs). Probably be the same for the specials.Pompey Boy wrote:Our current thinking equals we don't know!
This plan is flawed as SOMC is not large/efficient enough to deal with the rest of our mail - remember they already take our 2c packets, mech and some PPI ( Shame CWU did nothing to block this). Limited processing of mail (last IOW 1c/specials) will remain at POMC because there's no other way of doing it!

Re: Any updates on POMC?
POMC don't have crappy IMPs but the older NP4000s, for which spare parts are rapidly drying up. There would need to be a massive investment in infrastructure cabling and machinery for POMC to stay open, and that ain't gonna happen, sadly.
That MC has been overtaken by years of non-investment and non up-grading, so it looks like the Pompey staff (good bunch they are, too) will have to go to that miserable, gloomy under-performing office at SOMC..

Which office do you work at? Do you know about the problems RM have with processing the last IOW mail?SpacePhoenix wrote:Doubtful, I can't see RM keeping either IMPs or CFCs (what does POMC currently have in terms of machines?) just to process the last bit when it would then have to be forwarded onto SOMC to enter the main network (sent off to RDCs). All I know is that last specials and 1c from IOW will fail if it has to go to Soton. Will also mean earlier last collections from Pompey and the rurals.

I'm pretty sure the exemptions only apply to deliveries to that postcode and not collections from it. IoW is exempt from 0900 SD guarantee but that does not stop them being posted there afaik. What sort of time would IoW finals be arriving at Southampton?

Re: Any updates on POMC?
Last Newport and Ryde arrive about 8pm give or take, add the time it takes to go from Southsea to Eastleigh and there's your answer, collections come over on the hovercraft and take 10mins if collections were to be moved onto red funnel to Soton you could add 50 minutes to that time plus the journey time to the mail centre, and that's if red funnel have the capacity to carry mail! Also remember we are talking the islands main collection here, so everything posted after midday, an mpu will probably include some night sorting plus the mail sequencers
