having spent 16 days on strike in south wales a decade ago fighting against fixed and settled attendances.
now it is the norm as it was within 12 months of our strike which we knew we could not win.
likewise now, there is no way this strike is winnable.
at best we face losing at least £1000 in wages, having to accept the change currently being proposed.
at worst the whole business could go into meltdown leaving only deliveries in employment. this would mean at least 70,000 people out of a job.
the union will have to cease as they are already under pressure with a tidal wave of people stopping their deductions they will just be a minority union with very few members and little power.
in our office at least 20 people have stopped their deductions out of a staff of 62. this would have been unthinkable 5 years ago and every worker would have been in the union.
the future is damn bleak, and getting bleaker by the day. being on strike is something our ancestors did as well as s**t in the gutter, it has no place in this century.
