Re: Strike Ballot coming up
I think the time for strike action needed to be in December not now. Then lot of angry people will be complaining.

Re: Strike Ballot coming up
by the sounds of it a lot of members are gonna need the time upto december to get some money saved.
your gonna have to make sacrifices if you want this to work.
make them before the strike so it hits less hard.

Re: Strike Ballot coming up
Although I believe an all out strike would be the most effective over a shorter period, the rolling day strikes mean that people would lose less pay and consequently the strike could go on for a reasonably long time building the back log. Of course a total all out strike means the back log is from day 1 and the whole system is grid locked.

You p*iss too many people off esp ordinary folks around christmas then we will be heading for total wipeout like the miners.flaminmoses wrote:by the sounds of it a lot of members are gonna need the time upto december to get some money saved.

Some people out there do not even want us to get any sort of shares - they see as the bribe that it is and why bribe postie not others in public service like nurses, prison officials, firemen/women and police - they have also had to reform.
Privatisation will happen if the market is right and if the price is right for the prospective buyer. The strike will just be a token gesture. What do we hope to achieve with a stirke - scare the prospective buyer a little, spook the market (NOT!) and/or get better working conditions (conditions are not exactly that bad and any agreement will never be binding - we are not bankers/managers).
A bad strike action will actually accelerate things especially from the publics' perspective

Spoke to a blow in mail centre 35 years and he is definitely coming in if strikes go ahead and I know most of the logistics will be in too. Especially when you are senior and getting your pension I can understand why.

Better working conditions? Are you really that daft to think that's what it's about? It's about protecting jobs, pensions and trying to prevent conditions from getting worse.
In your own words you suggest people will see the share issue as a bribe. If that is the case then does accepting it without a fight not confirm this?
Try and think about what you write it might end up making more sense that way!
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

Re: Strike Ballot coming up
The only thing that concerns me is getting my shares and as the government have stated if its not an ipo and they sell it privately we will get nothing and things will be a lot worse for us. I think this will be a big worry for the union..

Re: Strike Ballot coming up
If you buy and sell shares you would know these will be worth something and if you don't think they will be worth anything then the company would be worth nothing and liquidated. As this could not happen we would be re nationalised as the post would have to be delivered some how ...

There is no fight here. You cannot fight for a future condition and you cannot stop the privatisation - certainly not by going on strike.
Whatever deal you fight for now will not last forever. Jobs are being lost as we speak and the conditions are certainly not getting better. At best the government might appease us (posties) like in the shares bribery and 3 years moratorium but after then what?).
So how do you protect jobs, pensions and prevent conditions getting worse in the future? Some people sometimes forget that we are mere employees...

Re: Strike Ballot coming up
This is not a popularity contest...
My reply was more about the person that wants to strike at Christmas. For a strike to be truly effective and effect a change, we will need a large public support and striking at Xmas will do the opposite even amongst working class folks.
The government has stolen a march on the Union by offering the Free shares (and its not about worth) - it has become a somewhat divisive issue between posties and the public. They have also said that our working conditions (perhaps for those currently employed) is going to be protected for 3 years and same for USO.
To the public, they will ask, what are we striking for? Please someone make a good argument that cannot be countered by RM or Govt not for me, but for Mr & Mrs J Blogg.
We (CWU) should really be on a charm offensive with the public and we should be more concentrated on talking about the service that might follow Privatisation - not too much on the selfish: Pensions, working conditions, Pay and boycotting DSA.
Lets see what the CWU come up with because they have be caught flat-footed since the announcement
Aiden: please elaborate on those proper terms and conditions - and try to compare that with the private sector or other countries. We are virtually low-skilled or unskilled labour!
