Royal Mail strike threat 'suicidal'

Although no longer with RM and CWU , I am still angry with the likes of Brown and Mandleson.I know there are good constituency MP's who support the Postal Service and it is to them that I would give support back.The problem with issues that affect postal services and postal workers is that when it comes to the crunch MPs toe the party line and it is the Whip that undermines progress and individuality and hampers democracy.
Apart from UKIP I believe the Greens also are strong supporters of RM and indeed Unions and come the next election I will be voting for one of these parties or an Independant if my sitting MP
proves to be useless.

So basically the party system is the problem for if we elect someone they get bullied into conforming into the party line?. OH just like royal mail strange that is it not what I said two years ago this is the problem not just of our workplace but our nation as a whole we need a new system of politics and business both are linked whether we like it or not!.

I dont believe the CWU should be affiliated to the Labour party or any other party for that matter.

I agree totally we are in the business of deliverying mail and the CWU officials heads are up the Labour party's collective arses if they are that obsessed with politics they should resign from their positions with the Cwu to concentrate on their political aspirations as the two are not compatiable and get in the way ala 2007 & 2009


now for me I believe the Cwu and Royal mail should be working together to educate the public on the ramifications and the cost of Dsa is having on the service we provide to the general public and debunk the final mile myth and truly explain how they can justify the claim when Springburn, Mlo distributes mail including dsa to Girvan, Ayrshire which is roughly 55 miles away and how Royal mail is having to subsidise every item of mail we deliver for uk mail/Tnt etc .... for me Royal Mail and the Cwu are not doing a good enough job of it ... Strikes/industrial action will not solve anything ... it just makes it worse in my experience

There are some Labour MPs who do a great deal of work for us,Michael Connarty being one.
There are many others who are a complete waste of space.
Perhaps individual affiliation might be a better use of resources.
If they are going to help us...fine but as a party Labour are not interested in Royal Mail or the CWU other than when the cheque is due.

TNT "could", but they won't, as it take a lot of time and investment in an ever-decreasing market. Better to just take the profitable path and let RM do the final slog.

TNT have small operations in 3 parts of London , they employ people on £7.20 per hour , on zero hour contracts , no sick pay ,they work in different areas per day and few work over 25 hours per week. They only deliver letters and all letters are bar coded. They do not deliver packets.

A strike will not mean that TNT would be able to set up an alternative end to end service it would not be profitable and would take them to long. Their business model is once they achieve the traffic levels they require they expand to a different area.They have taken 5% of traffic of Royal Mail in West London and just below that in South West London but would not be able to handle a strike as Royal Mail handle in a week the total traffic TNT handle in a year.

I think I can say, without fear of contradiction, that no one will ever set up a business in direct competition to RM on the same level.
It's not impossible, but near enough, and the cost would make it prohibitive. Especially when they can just give the mail to RM to deliver for peanuts.
In fact, it would probably be cheaper to just buy RM.
