Cant see many folk refusing the shares Clash,as long as they are
free to staff i would imagine the take-up would be 100% "But
and there is always a But" Royal Mail giving us something for
nothing, we will have to examine the small print and then
re-examine it.Trust them as far as you can throw smoke :hmmmm :hmmmm

Royal Mail is already owned by the public.
We are taking 10% of it from them for ourselves.
We are nothing better than thieves and scoundrels.

This is what Marx(Karl not Groucho) called false-consciousness whereby the proles are ideologically controlled by their own unwarranted belief that shares will give them something they cannot have......upward mobility.

Rather than refuse to take our shares we should use the money to mount an industrial-political revolution and take back the company by appointing our own Council of People's Commissars.
We should march on The Embankment tomorrow.

As Chief Commissar I would be forced to take Moya's office and pay structure but I am willing to carry the burden for the greater good of the proletariat.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Maybe Vince is not playing all his cards yet.

If resistance from the workforce is strong, his position might shift. You might be allowed to sell the shares after say 12 months. He may give away say 12% or even 15% to sweeten the deal

If I get Royal Mail shares from privitasation. Should I sell at first opportunity or keep. He told me to keep them. :funneh

What do you think about that.

Poor advice but only because he did not give you a time-scale or explain the costs/benefits.

Tax:
We have to keep them for a minimum of 3 years. If you sell immediately at that point then there will be a tax cost. After 5 years IIRC there won't be.

Short Term:
Also at the point that we are able to sell its probable that people who have posted on here "Show me the money"" won't be in the minority and a lot of shares being sold will have a negative effect on the sale price. You'll lose out on future dividends, but you do get the money straight away if the company crashes at some point.

Medium Term:
If you have already decided on keeping them rather than selling them straight away then medium term is probably the best option for getting a decent amount for them as you can gauge when you can get the best return. Also you have a better idea if the dividends received mean holding on to the shares is a good or bad idea. Gamble being if the company crashes before you cash in the shares.

Long Term.
Probably the biggest gamble with the political ramifications if the USO is being watered down, or the company really struggles after privatisation however if the company survives then historically shares tend to improve over longer periods and you would have received more dividends over that time.

However, reading between the lines and the mentions of good-leaver/bad leaver I wonder if they will allow you to keep the shares when you leave/retire.

Also what about bad leavers, if you get suspended and dismissal is likely, what's to stop you cashing in the shares straight away - would they try to recoup the money after your dismissal ? Another question would be how would they stop you selling them quickly in those circumstances when it could be a case of pre-judgement and possibly unfair in legal terms.

Put them in the draw and give them to your kids in say 20 years. You never know they might be worth a fortune..
