suprising - i was waiting for the "they took a pension break quote"
well THEY never had much option as our pension was worth too much money, and back then that was against the law.
if you had too much money in your pension fund you had to pay an extortionate amount of tax under the tory government. like numerous other industries they discussed this matter fully with unions and it was "AGREED" it was probably best not to pay further contributions for the forseeable future.

also like so many other pension funds the stock market has kicked the sh*t out of us.

read the details from your pension booklets, between the lines you'll see that royal mail has assets of approx Â£300m - the pension fund has assets of nearly Â£17 billion.
if the changes are not made to the pension fund now, by the time you wish to retire at 60 there could be no money left.

don't lose sight of the fact that we are all a lot healthier now. ten years ago the average person lived to 71, not it is 79 y/o.

and if you do not listen to the hype and get on to the pension fund they will explain to you that people who started pre 1986 are under a different scheme and set of changes.

and i stand by what i said, on the union myself back in 1985 and when we were given details of these new machines that could sort thousands of letters an hour - the job scare thing was evident then too.

with all change there will be casualties, if i am shown the door i have 10 years left to give to another business.
