Croydon Mail Centre
Heard this one last night that if Croydon does close Royal Mail are looking at a site in Banstead. This could also affect Jubilee MC also as they could nick either KT and GU or the whole lot with either JMC and Croydon merging as one. Any Croydon people know anymore?

Re: Croydon Mail Centre
I would doubt that Croydon would move to a new building in Banstead as they have just built an extension as some cost to handle the South East inward. For Royal Mail to consider moving Croydon so shortly after closing Nine Elms would be very strange. Never say never but I hear 10 rummours per week on mail centres closing and they are more ofen far off the mark.

As Dingo says, have a look at how much investment has taken place at this site including the mech. With the addition of SE, this is now a very safe MC.

Re: Croydon Mail Centre
I know nothing of mail centres but I do know how large organisations operate (I think we all do), just because a lot of money is spent on a project or building, that does not stop them from scrapping the investment. They are great at throwing money away, paying directors large bonuses and keeping the workers wages low.dodger162 wrote:As Dingo says, have a look at how much investment has taken place at this site including the mech. Re: Croydon Mail Centre
What machines any office has means s**t, any office can be cleared out of all its machines in a few days. LSMs, iLSMs, MTTs, CSS, CFCs and IMPs could be removed from any office in probably a day. Packet sorting machines and flat sorting machines could probably be removed in a few days.
Any office getting money spent on it could just as easily mean that it's going to close, just like you would redecorate a house to make it more attractive to buyers.

Re: Croydon Mail Centre
Hearld the Coulsdon one too but I've also heard that even with the extension of Croydon MC that the place is too small and is not coping very well. Gatwaick could be split BN in with PO/SO when they build that MC and RH in with Croydon. The problem is that they are over an hour away from Thamesmead at the moment maybe that might be the reason for the rethinking. Also at JMC we are too small for the work we have now. I also can see alot of reshuffling within the London 5 Greenford MC has been told they are still under capacity work wise. I also think they will be reshuffling nationwide as some moves are not working ie Medway, South Midlands, HCN still having probs. It's going to be a wait and see what happens

Re: Croydon Mail Centre
Why move to Croydon when it has maybe 2 years left so the rumours say!! Medway is safest mail center in the country and could take some off croydons workload,ie south east London work. If Royal Mail sold off or not you don't think they will have 2 mail centres on top off each over do you Croydon and gatwicknanad28 wrote:Anyone in croydon mail centre interested in moving to Medway mail centre, full time Monday to friday

Medway struggles to deal with the work it already has and has no room left to handle more imo.

Re: Croydon Mail Centre
I think the thing with Croydon is that it is still not big enough for the work it has and if Gatwick does close (It is actually on the site for the proposed 2nd runway). I've heard that Romford is not big enough for the E Postcode a lot of the planning is at the moment short term as they had nowhere else for it to go considering that East London Mail Centre in Bromley By Bow could have taken Romford instead. Basically the closures of the 2 MCs were politically driven rather then the right thing to be done and now we have got MCs bursting at the seams with work. Jubilee MC is the biggest inward op in the country and they are diverting their 2nd class to Mount Pleasant now

Re: Croydon Mail Centre
Well said rainbow warrior but the point I was getting at is its a safer option working at Medway than Croydon, all mail centres are bursting at the seams but Croydon will close and their flagship new office Medway won't!!rainbowwarrior72 wrote:I think the thing with Croydon is that it is still not big enough for the work it has and if Gatwick does close (It is actually on the site for the proposed 2nd runway). Re: Croydon Mail Centre
Basically depends on what happens with Gatwick if the 2nd runway doesn't happen then Croydon is relatively safe for sometime

Re: Croydon Mail Centre
Croydon has seen a lot of investment, changes to the building and new mech. So it will not close anytime soon. There are always rumours re MCs, some people at Greenford recently thought they were for the chop. The MC closure programme is nearly at an end, there is Postmouth and Ipswich still to be confirmed. Only the SW region has not been reviewed, MCs in the rest of the country will be safe for years to come.
