Re: Posties who are deemed "slow"?
Below is a sample of a route activity report and basically shows you what geo has used to build up the walks, I will try to explain what some of this indicates.
Pos Roua act* Identifier- postcode Distance Duration DelPts
please igonre the last letter from each postcode
1 Travel-o* From 312703 To AL10 0DHA 527.4 00:05:17 seg 1 means from the office to first del point 527.4 metres and 5min17sec to reach using HCT
2 Srv dema* AL10 0DHA PC 54 00:02:07 8 Srv demand is the allowance to walk up/down paths and delivery mail through letterbox (8sec)
3 Deadhead From AL10 0DHA To AL10 0FGA 19.7 00:00:11 time indicated to move from the last DP to the next DP (street)
4 Srv dema* AL10 0FGA GROUP 0 00:03:24 30
5 Deadhead From AL10 0FGA To AL10 0FFA 74.4 00:00:44
6 Srv dema* AL10 0FFA GROUP 0 00:02:07 18
7 Deadhead From AL10 0FFA To AL10 0FEA 8 00:00:04
8 Srv dema* AL10 0FEA GROUP 0 00:03:59 36
9 Deadhead From AL10 0FEA To AL10 0DJB 110.7 00:01:06
10 Srv dema* AL10 0DJB PC 79 00:04:09 13
11 Srv dema* AL10 0DJA PC 47.1 00:01:26 3
12 Deadhead From AL10 0DJA To AL10 0EGA 95.7 00:00:57
13 Srv dema* AL10 0EGA PC 46 00:02:05 6
14 Deadhead From AL10 0EGA To AL10 0EGE 6.1 00:00:03
15 Srv dema* AL10 0EGE PC 6 00:00:37 2
16 Deadhead From AL10 0EGE To AL10 0EGI 36.2 00:00:21
17 Srv dema* AL10 0EGI GROUP 0 00:01:51 6
18 Deadhead From AL10 0EGI To AL10 0EGH 5 00:00:03
Looking at the breakdown of the activities the distances and travel times are unrealistic 11sec to travel 19.7m pushing a full HCT is impossible and then add the safety element (geo doesn't plan for safety) in this case have to cross a busy road with high kerbs so you actually need to find the dropped kerbs at the end of the roads in order to cross, which changed the time/distance to 45sec 54.7m to complete.
I would ask the dom for a printout of there walks and then take him through what the geo has planned highlighting the unrealistic timings within there reports and inform him how lucky he is that the whole office isn't working to the agreed methods.
If he/she feels confident that there route activity reports are achievable then you would be willing to do a live test against this geo data.

When our revision comes in soon I anticipate this accusation being aimed at us, my reaction to this will be - I have done this job for 15 years at the same level ( if not better ) why tell me now I'm slow as you have had no cause for complaint up to today, have you only just noticed ?

The most grief you will get will be over the indoor element I should imagine especially if you are on double prep assuming you are a full timer,if you have the misfortune to be a part timer and you are paired up with a lazy full timer you are in for a world of grief.timemax wrote:When our revision comes in soon I anticipate this accusation being aimed at us, my reaction to this will be - I have done this job for 15 years at the same level ( if not better ) why tell me now I'm slow as you have had no cause for complaint up to today, have you only just noticed ?

Oh yes it is agreed that for a proper test that both Royal Mail and the cwu are present, it's not valid if that's not the case.mandelsons_toenail wrote:Thanks for the advice, generally as I thought.
Can a rep insist on being there during round testing?
How would a rep observe both pairings

Re: Posties who are deemed "slow"?
I'm sorry but this is nonsense. The 'pace' set out by geo-route is completely inconsequential. If you work efficiently using the tools provided you are fine.fishtank wrote:
Unless you absolutely know for certain that they can maintain the pace set out by georoute across the delivery this could be dangerous.
If they are slower than the georoute expectations this will give management ammunition to continue to bully the members.
If you walk slower than the speed that planners have typed into geo-route then you walk slower. So what? They can't do anything about it, it proves nothing, it doesn't prove you are going 'too slow' or need to speed up it proves they have typed in average figures which don't pan out on this particular walk with this particular postie. As for giving them ammunition to bully you with BULLYING IN THE WORKPLACE IS ILLEGAL. They can use any excuse but it is still illegal and against RM policy so complain through official channels.
Your post raises the fear that checking up on Posties is something to worry about. It is not. Do the job properly, stop to check your mail, don't cut over grass or walls, use a trolly on loops, wait for a full 1m before writing out a P739, and you will see that no postie in the country can match the figures in geo-route.

Then why agree to be "tested"?meercat wrote:If you walk slower than the speed that planners have typed into geo-route then you walk slower. So what? And....why would the manager want to test you?
The whole point of my post went zooming over your head at 30,000 feet.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I guess I still don't get it. Why agree to be tested? Well you don't agree because you have no say in the matter, if they want to test you they can - you have no option they pay your wages.fishtank wrote:Then why agree to be "tested"?meercat wrote:If you walk slower than the speed that planners have typed into geo-route then you walk slower. A manager would want to test you to put you under pressure, to make you go faster by delivering at an unsafe pace, in an unsafer manner, cutting corners and so giving your householders a below standard service and compromising mail safety (leaving trolleys unattended for example).
