It's down to late shifts in MCs as that's the shift that processes collections, the worst culprits seem to be the new build MCs. RM don't allow time for other shifts to put a line through them.

Yup. Most stamped letters from BOs, firms and postbox collections get tipped into the ALFs (Automated Letter Facers), which are supposed to cancel the stamps. The ones that aren't cancelled used to be cancelled manually, but with duty cuts that isn't done now, so they are put straight onto manual sorting bays. There might be time for sorters to put a line through them in the early part of the day. But after 1900 when the bulk of the collections are coming in there just isn't time. The sorters are under pressure to just get the mail sorted asap for the final despatch.

Yet another job left for the delivery guys . We used to put a line through the odd few that popped up but now , nobody up that food chain could give a turd about doing their jobs , so why should we . ....OH YES BECAUSE WE ARE AT THE END OF THE TURD LINE .

I do take great joy in getting reused stamps (which has also gone through the roof )surcharged , alas just the other day my PHG told me he didnt want to surcharge them as it was right down his priority list ...creating revenue is right down his list .....go figure that

some people just cut around the stamp and glue it on we take them to dim to put surcharge sticker on.
