A former Birmingham postman is facing jail for hoarding SIX YEARS’ worth of undelivered mail.
An amazing 14,000 letters and packages were found inside Lee Sullivan’s home – some dating back to May, 2007.
Some of the post had been opened – but the 44-year-old insisted he had not been hunting for cash and was “simply being nosey”.
John Dove, prosecuting, told Birmingham Magistrates’ Court the haul was found at Sullivan’s home in Chingford Road, Kingstanding.
A trolley used by Sulllivan had earlier been found to contain 4,673 pieces of undelivered postal packets, Mr Dove said.
He said some of the items had been earmarked for delivery as long ago as May 2007.
“The defendant was questioned over what had happened and he said he had a hernia and could not walk properly,” Mr Dove said.
“He said he would put them in the trolley with the view that he would deliver them the next day, but it snowballed until it became unmanageable.
“He said he did not open them to find cash, but that he was simply being nosey.
“Some items were minus their contents, but he denied stealing them.”
Mr Dove said the trolley was found almost a year after Sullivan, who worked for Royal Mail for more than 23 years, was “dismissed” in March last year.
He said 843 of the items were later re-posted, at a cost to Royal Mail of more than £67.
Sullivan admitted three charges of delaying or opening a postal packet, contrary to the Postal Services Act 2000.
He is due to be sentenced by magistrates on August 28.
Graham McGrath, defending, said most of the post was flyers and junk mail.
“There were physical difficulties in this case, but more significantly there were psychiatric problems,” he added.
“My client is now on medication for depression and has been referred to a psychiatrist.”

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Not exactly covering his tracks was he, but in some ways more significant and certainly what would raise questions is

A year after dismissal.Mr Dove said the trolley was found almost a year after Sullivan, who worked for Royal Mail for more than 23 years, was “dismissed” in March last year.

Suppose it's impossible to know what amount is missing, unless they own up to it.
Wonder where the trolley was? If it's was in the office, it just goes to show how much checking goes on. Or, in this case, is failed to be performed.
