You might be underestimating the power of solid and concerted IA. We've got big power and we are using it, and the more we use it the stronger we get, go check your letter box and forget management bluster. Feeling stronger every dayTheEngineer wrote:I think your forgetting something here, the business can talk all day long about the pension but if the trustees approve of whatever action they need to take on pensions then it doesn`t matter a flying fluck what we think or want and thats a fact !!!! We can`t do squat apart from moan/strike etc and then well we might have no pension :( All thats going on just now is making sure that there we get the best out of what we have already paid in thus far togethor wiht whats in store, the Union might tell you other wise but from what i got told the other night from our area rep, the pension is gonna change like it or lump it !

if the union are telling me that ! what does that say ? Honestly do you really think we are going to keep the final salary scheme ? Its a serious question ? Its 3.6 billion in the red with the business commited to paying it back in 17 yrs along with the constant attacks on the business from other companies with a government so far not interested one bit in bailing us out ! I hope I`m wrong :(

re: Management cull since 2003
I was personally invovled in removing thousands of management since 2003. Management removals actually contributed more savings than single daily delivery. I also left under voluntary redundancy.
Area management numbers have been slashed along with head office and support services. Sales has halved in size in that period. It is not fair to say that they are not affected.
Operations was specifically left alone during that period, with an executive decision made by Crozier (was in the room when he said it). This is because he recognised that it was easier to make the savings via management reduction, which had got way too overblown.
It would be useful to see the manager's deal before commenting further

Fozz Do you think DO Managers are the next in line when this has been settled??as they have at the moment been left largely untouched.Operations was specifically left alone during that period, with an executive decision made by Crozier (was in the room when he said it). they took our pension contributions for 17 years and stuck them straight in their back pockets . . . . now they want US to make up that loss in our pensions by paying in the extra that's needed and taking less out when we're done . . . . with those simple facts I will continue to walk out and take any other action asked of me . . . even if the odds are against us on getting that money back, I'm fighting for what's right and that's all I need to know.TheEngineer wrote:if the union are telling me that ! what does that say ? Having read this piece below and tried to comment twice on it now, it seems The Times are only interested in reading views which portray us as the bad guys.

Her name sounds like an illegal immigrants surname - what right she got to whinge?Post Office workers are living in cloud cuckoo land. There is absolutely no skill involved in delivering a letter and therefore they will always below the national average salary. The lack of skill is exacerbated by the fact that technology has reduced the number of communications sent via post not to mention the competition. If one is a post office work and wants decent pay get trained in a skill that is in short supply in the UK.

I've seen people who have been prepared for this job break down when they have been confronted by their first solo day on a walk - I wish some of these arrogant prats were allowed to come in and sample what we actually do for them each day - or do they believe we are all like the "eastenders" TV postie who appears fresh as a daisy in a new uniform every episode carrying about 30 letters. The electronic age is producing business not destroying it - we now deliver nearly every subscription magazine available and all the direct mail that doesn't get through spam filters on your much hyped and totally unreliable internet. My skills include correctly delivering all the mail that lazy bastards don't address properly to the places they are supposed to be and knowing all my customers well enough to save them travelling to collect undelivered mail when they are not in and taking the trouble to protect their valuable post whilst it's in my custody. Miss (got to be) Akinuli is typically uninformed and ignorant to the point of being pitied - but not by me !!!Wild Rover wrote:Having read this piece below and tried to comment twice on it now, it seems The Times are only interested in reading views which portray us as the bad guys.

Many people pass judgement on a job and the most ill informed have shed loads to say,you will always get some silly punter think they know how to do this job and they are always quick to say that the RM staff take the mickey, lazy over paid,i think that these people are a****y challenged.

according to the bbc news the managers union decided just to accept the pension proposals instead of fighting them. i'd love their union to represent us, not. does this mean that if we secure a better deal on the pensions as a direct result of our IA will the screws pensions be improved as well or will they have to keep what they've just agreed to ?

We shouldn't forget that this is merely a proposal and that a 60 day consultation period is to take place - there aren't too many of them and plenty of us so if we keep fighting and winning the pension deal can still be changed and it would affect them though their deal to have their bonus pensioned would still stand.arsenalbob wrote:according to the bbc news the managers union decided just to accept the pension proposals instead of fighting them. i'd love their union to represent us, not. does this mean that if we secure a better deal on the pensions as a direct result of our IA will the screws pensions be improved as well or will they have to keep what they've just agreed to ?
Over a 5 year period if their bonus was 3k they would have an extra 15k pensioned over and above the CWU worker. However that just means it becomes a problem further down the line as the pension bill would increase proportionately - so they are on a buggering to nothing really.
