A POSTMAN stole thousands of letters and packages, and stashed them in his Motherwell home.
Darrin Ferguson (40) of Birrens Road, kept bundles of letters, cards and parcels over a four-year period. He blamed a bad back for not delivering the mail.
At Hamilton Sheriff Court this week, Ferguson admitted theft of the postal packages between October 2008 and June last year. He was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work within six months.
Ferguson, a postman for around 10 years, is well known in fishing circles in the west of Scotland and has won several competitions.
Suspicion fell on him when he was spotted removing mail from his locker at the sorting office in Motherwell. A search of his home uncovered stacks of undelivered letters.
Ferguson said he had back problems and was struggling with the load.

How the hell did he manage to do this for so long?
Surely suspicions should have arisen ages ago?

Stating that he failed to deliver mail for four years is not the same as stating that he didn't deliver anything for four years.UnhappyGremlin wrote:How the hell did he manage to do this for so long?

bundles of letters, cards and parcels
thousands of letters and packages
stacks of undelivered letters.
How many?
10 letters a day would net you about 10,000 over 4 years and how many were D2D?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Never said it was. It is just a long time to be doing something and not being noticed.fishtank wrote:Stating that he failed to deliver mail for four years is not the same as stating that he didn't deliver anything for four years.UnhappyGremlin wrote:How the hell did he manage to do this for so long?

I assume most of what wasn't delivered was junk/unimportant, which would help to explain it. When bills/statements/credit cards/birthday cards etc. go missing they're missed a lot sooner.
