Btw, why do they have to BIG everything up as if it's a matter of national security. A fact finding interview !! A guy was hungry and popped out for something to eat. That's it. One line, says it all. If he'd done something bizarre or quirky RM could rightfully ask if this would impact on his intended return to work. Popping out for a burger whilst on the sick is self explanatory. You needed food and were glad to get out of the house.

I tripped over a mat at work. Again, a very short sentence explaining an everyday event. Not saying I personally fall over every day but you know what I mean. Anyway, the DOM decided we needed a one hour fact finding interview. ONE HOUR to decide the facts of falling over a mat. Or of making the facts fit his objective of it being my fault. And he sat there with this ridiculous, ham-acted look on his face as if he was pondering the mysteries of the universe. He kept looking up at the ceiling, deep in thought, like he was the most shrewd and intuitive being ever to contemplate such an event. When Royal Mail's solicitors contemplated it later they give me thousands of pounds. So the fact is my DOM wasn't really very shrewd or intuitive, he was actually a bit of a clot.

Sounds like your DOM is also intellectually and ethically challenged.

Ive had a fact finding interview about the situation. What is most likely to happen.

I would be looking for an apology.
If the whole case is that you went to McDonalds while off sick then you haven't done anything wrong,breached any standard or broken any rules.
If they try to do anything to you get your Branch involved.

They try and treat us like we're still at school. And a lot of us fall into the trap.
One of the lads at our office got questioned about going to the races, while off sick. Simple response was "I was unfit for work, covered by the doctor, and not bed ridden." Nothing they could do about it.

Yeah I was sick Saturday through to Monday and a line manager saw me at McDs Sunday at 10.30 he said, well all the office knows I go McDs on sunday for breccy its kind of a ritual really and had a fact finding interview. Monday I was ok but didn't feel 100%. Today we had a off the record chat and he said if I tell the truth what happened while I was sick he will give me a 2 year probation?? Seems abit unfair as it was only two days off sick! He called it a "fraudulent day off as when he saw me I looked fine!" Those were his words.

@Fishtank what do you mean by get your branch involved?

If you don't feel your unit rep is up to the job, get on the phone to your Area rep.
It is what they are there for. It is what you pay your subs for.

And don't admit to something you didn't do.

Fvcking hell dude. That's a straight threat. You need to look into that. He's not a doctor either.

Yes Migs, I was also told I "looked fine" after my accident. I felt like going to my local newspaper and saying the Accident & Emergency department at the nearby hospital was taking the taxpayer for a complete ride. They'd put me through these very expensive machines to quantify my back injuries and I'd also been prodded and examined by a medic who'd spent ten years at University and received £100,000 per annum. Why waste all of this money when my DOM can tell with a quick glance the total extent of my injuries.

It also appears that yours, as well as being a medical genius, is an eminent lawyer. A "fraudulent" day off eh, you bad lad. Next time you talk to him can you mention I'm having a bit of trouble with my space shuttle. If he could possibly pop round I'm sure he'll rectify the malfunction in a blink of an eye.

What a load of arrogant, overly suspicious, jumped up knobs they are.
