Postman to visit Sutton on golden postbox tour

A postman is embarking on a fundraising tour of the country's golden postboxes.

Postie Gary White will be visiting five of Sutton's golden postboxes - repainted in honour of athletes David Weir and Joanna Rowsell following their wins at last summer's Olympic and Paralympic Games - as part of a tour of all 104 across the country.

Mr White is going on the Olympic journey to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association following the death of his aunt from the illness. He will be posing for a picture next to each postbox and sending a postcard using the commemorative stamp produced for each gold medal-winning athlete.

He said: "My hope is that the Olympic spirit that spread throughout the nation last year lives on a little, and by touring these boxes for a good cause, one part of the legacy may live on."

Mr White will be visiting Sutton's postboxes, four of which recognise David Weir's medals in the Paralympics, one of which is for Joanna Rowsell, on July 25.
