NFSP blasts bonus pot for Post Office bosses

Post Office bosses received £2m in bonuses last year as they ended an incentive scheme worth £2.2m for sub-postmasters.

According to The Guardian the National Federation of SubPostmaters (NFSP) condemned the payments as ‘morally reprehensible’.

A freedom of information request found that Post Office managers earning £80,000 a year shared a bonus pot worth £2.2m, those earning between £30,000 and £80,000 shared £7.2m and those with a wage lower than £30,000 shared £6.2m.

However sub-postmasters, who are agents, not staff members, were not entitled to any bonus.

They had been receiving a 1p-a-letter payment for separating first and second class post but the scheme was scrapped after just five months although they were expected to continue separating post.

NFSP General Secretary, George Thomson said: “It is incredible that at a time when money is tight the management see fit to cut a vital payment to sub-postmasters, whilst paying themselves huge bonuses.

“They probably didn’t think 11,000 sub-postmasters were worth it and it begs the question: is it about the people doing the jobs on the ground, or those sitting in ivory towers?”
