LTB 423/13 Royal Mail Group and Post Office Limited Legal Consultation

No. 423/13
Ref: 67000
Date: 2013

To: All Branches with Postal Members

Dear Colleague

ROYAL MAIL GROUP AND POST OFFICE LIMITED PENSION CONSULTATION

We have been advised this afternoon that the legal consultation document for proposed further pension changes has been posted to employees today and is due to arrive from tomorrow morning.

The legal consultation is due to conclude on the 25th August and both companies have confirmed that they are committed to further discussions with the Union both during and after the consultation has concluded.

As part of the consultation both companies will be seeking the direct views of employees and it is important that all representatives reaffirm to CWU members the policy the Union has adopted. As such, the attached letter should be distributed to our members in the workplace.

We can also reaffirm that now the consultation has been triggered arrangements are being made to hold a Special Conference, which will deal with pensions alongside the issues of privatisation and outstanding national talks. The Postal Executive will meet on the 27th June to confirm the arrangements and policies for this Conference.

Further information will follow in due course. Any enquiries on the above LTB should be addressed to the DGS (P) Department.

Yours sincerely

Dave Ward Billy Hayes
Deputy General Secretary (P) General Secretary

21st June 2013

TO: ALL CWU MEMBERS

Dear Colleague

ROYAL MAIL GROUP AND POST OFFICE LIMITED PENSION CONSULTATION

You will have received a letter and document from either the Royal Mail Group or Post Office Limited setting out their formal proposals for further pension changes as part of a legal consultation process.

The legal process is due to conclude on the 25th August and both companies have committed to further discussions with the Union both during and after the
consultation has concluded.

CWU Policy

The Union has already written to both companies rejecting these proposals. We have instructed our lawyers to consider action over the legality of the proposals and the actions of both companies, the Trustee Board and Government. Furthermore, we will ensure this issue is raised in parliament and will insist on a thorough enquiry into the whole question of this latest pension development, its linkage to the previous Government settlement and European state aid.

The Union will call upon the Trustee Board to hold an extraordinary Board meeting to explain to our members their position and their role in how this situation has developed. We have advised both companies that any attempt to introduce further pension changes by executive action will be opposed by all means necessary.

The Union’s Executive Council will meet on the 27th June to confirm arrangements for a Special Conference on pensions, privatisation and all outstanding national talks. In the meantime, we will continue to discuss these matters with both companies.

Further information will follow in due course.

Yours sincerely

Well they won't actually 'consult' us anyway.
They'll just inform us of their intentions.
Were they to consult us, they would be told to piss off. :Very Happy
