Re: Lapsing Duties
What sort of revision did you have? Whether it be was a table top or delivery methods revision you shouldn't have spare capacity to lapse (especially with a DMR) unless the TT/DM revision was a mess in the first place! If you have the usual silly buggers coming in early, finishing early etc they will f*ck up the best intentions .. let them take up the slack and just do your job properly.
We have summer lapsing too look forward to .. whatever revision you have had!

Re: Lapsing Duties
Whether you lapse or not would depend on what week you used as a model week, what/how your traffic is, what your FT/PT ratio is.oldfart wrote:Can anyone who's office has had their revision please tell me how many, if any ,duties get lapsed each day ?

If they want you to lapse just get them to show you the figures and explain the "science" to you.
The revisions aren't one size fits all. Nobody on here can explain what is happening in your DO.
If you are lapsing duties, can you do it within your contracted hours?

Re: Lapsing Duties
Lapsing is also meant to create additional leave slots in summer - one more space on leave sheet for that week for every duty you lapse

Lapsing should surely no happen after a revision? Lowest traffic model etc? Or am I mistaken?

Re: Lapsing Duties
This is where we get into the confusion over all year round absorption of workload which could be caused by all sorts of things like not having a revision and shrinkage of indoor workload due to automation and which won't open up extra leave...and...summer lapsing or Efficient Summer staffing to give it it's proper title which is based purely on the reduction of mail volumes usually between the middle of May and the middle of August(12 weeks).feduppostie wrote:Lapsing is also meant to create additional leave slots in summer - one more space on leave sheet for that week for every duty you lapse
This is what should enable extra leave in the summer.
• Efficient Summer staffing – each unit will utilise the opportunity offered by reduced traffic volumes to re-arrange responsibilities during the summer period. This will offer employees additional opportunities for leave during the same period.

Re: Lapsing Duties
We have never lapsed outdoor due to the fact that very few of us are in a fit state to do any more outdoor work after our post revision walks. However we do have indoor work that people are asked to do if they return back early, such as D2D throw offs. Stange really as this is work that should be done in the morning and so it means that we have shifted some of our indoor hours from morning to afternoon. Of course the runners that come back early are grabbing overtime on walks that cant be covered of have cut off. So we have had situations where Mr A is back early and cracks on with his over time whilst Mr B is asked to perform indoor work without over time payment

Re: Lapsing Duties
So...if it's not supposed to happen, why are 8 - 15 bags being left behind most days?
This means only a round and a half are being taken out...against the planned 2 rounds.
On paper, the new system works...in the Real World, it's not working so far.
As Homer Simpson said, "Communism works, in Theory!"

If you have the capacity to lapse these duties then do so, if not then don't, simplesoldfart wrote:Can anyone who's office has had their revision please tell me how many, if any ,duties get lapsed each day ?

Re: Lapsing Duties
I've just put a disagreement in over summer lapsing.
After monitoring forecast and actual traffic figures I said to the management that it was ridiculous to lapse.
Week 10(1 week before lapsing was meant to start), every days actual figures were miles over model week.
1 day--forecast 49.000, actual,---70.000.
Traffic generally drops for maybe a couple of weeks.
They try it on every year and with being given a horrendous revision and office still broken, it just rubs salt into the massive gaping cut they have left us.
I'm going to get a IA ballot sorted out soon.

Re: Lapsing Duties
Don't come in early and have your full meal relief, the DOM hates it.
It's stress free , do everything by the book, docket everything.
As long as your doing the job properly you don't do lapsing as you then cut off.
Another thing its always the runners that have strains and other injuries and are always moaning.
I just do the job properly and let everything else just go over my head

Re: Lapsing Duties
Quality, is that why we need people to work their day off on overtime, efficient and staffing are two things that most certainly do not go together in my office!fishtank wrote: reduction of mail volumes usually between the middle of May and the middle of August(12 weeks).

• Efficient Summer staffing – each unit will utilise the opportunity offered by reduced traffic volumes to re-arrange responsibilities during the summer period. This will offer employees additional opportunities for leave during the same period.
As per above; start at your contracted hours (part-timers, see below), have your meal relief, use the equipment supplied to specification, van checks (if you have them). Unless you have a s**t revision where crap figures were used so some walks are overly long and some stupidly short then you probably wont have time to lapse. If you do go over, for gods sake book it, make them learn we are not robots.
Part-timers; always eager to please, always eager to screw up the system. The number of part-timers that come in early is staggering, possibly eager to please el-bossio in the vain hope they will get a full-time position?? In my office if part-timers came in on time then those paired duties would not lapse/absorb and quite possibly book overtime - says a lot. A s**t system deliberately created by management to try and force people to work outside of their contracted hours for nothing........
