How is it wilful delay if it is still being delivered the same day??
The only person breaking rules is the person ghosting on O/T

I would have just gave them enough to guarantee the duty being finished on time, i mean what you estimate then a bit more, if you finish early, chill out and sort the van out or read a paper.

But at the handover point how do we know for certain that the person collecting is ghosting.

They may have been instructed to collect it during normal hours to ensure those unable to complete can do so during their own hours.

They may not even be claiming overtime till they have gone over, and even if you "know they are ghosting" can it be proven without breaching their right to privacy.

In the end covering any "cut off" is managements problem and even with the best intentions of Union members or reps we should not be policing it. Therefore if someone turns up asking for the cut off, as long as they are employees and you have cut off, then there should be no problem. If you legitimately require confirmation then a call to the manager is the best option.

As to the willful delay that is probably a stretch, as is the charge "Failing to comply with a reasonable request" namely handing over mail to an authorised employee, but not as much of a stretch.

The postie cutting off was holding on to it to make a point.
DOM had already gone home
Okay the early starter is wrong in starting early, and the DOM is wrong if he allows ghosting but that's a management issue not an OPG one. I also understand the frustration that ghosting causes but can we really have it both ways, being pissed off because someone is "hoovering" the overtime, but not claiming it ourselves.

Yes its a PITA when people cut up jobs but putting our own on the line over it seems an overreaction. A report up the Union line would perhaps be the best option, certainly a safer one employment wise.

True,

I actually did think of the sort of scenario you mentioned. I had a call from a manager to help out (OT, of course) because a colleague had badly twisted his ankles and he could not carry on.

The colleague was in a neighbouring round -(2 estates split into tow). I simply drove round to collect the mail from him well before my finish time. Other times, posties/manager bring their cut-offs or cannot finish due to health concerns for postie or family.

Like I said, the manager deal with resourcing and in this case manager had put a plan into action (given he/she was not even going to be in the office), it was a bit churlish to defy a manager on a small issue of perceived injustice.

Anyways, the cut-off king might be ghosting as per contract times but he still has to do the job. :whistle

(BTW, it is not only PTers that do or need OT; in grand scheme of things more OTs (if you include SA, days off, early starts, chucking out Flats) are probably done by Full Time staff.)
