Managers says he does not care what time people come in. But he is loathed to seeing people come back hours early especially when their own bosses are around.
And the CWU is more pre-occupied with DSA and other dross.
True, but what can the union do if the muppets decide to come in early?,I can't see how the union can stop these people from self harming.
But the Union has never even mentioned this phenomenon and its associated effects. We are letting Royal mail off the hook in so many ways by insisting on coming early (sometimes for nothing) and Royal Mail knows how much folks like their flexi-time and getting home by 1.00pm (lol) so they keep piling more and more on the postmen.
The job has changed but people just do not want to accept. We have a Union that is concerned with politics rather than actualities...
People were using their cars to make the job easier and quicker - Union did very little to discourage
People are not using the given equipment to make job quicker - ditto
People are not even using safety gears - folks still cycling without helmets
People speeding around in vans for time collections and now for delivery - just to make the job quicker. Why why why???
D2Ds became delivery suplements - now part of workload. And we were told by CWU that we will not get that many D2D anyway; now they average 4-5 big ones a week. Most posties now do them in their own time - just to make the job faster.
Royal knows us and they know how to beat us.
I just want the CWU to highlight the issues and discourage (not force) their members to do the sensible thing.
I was just so deflated when during WTLL, some postie try to suggest that they give a lot to the office and management and that we should be thanked for coming in early. Manager says, I did not ask you to come in early!

How, in all that time has he not gone over time?
How much has he lost in income and for what? Maybe he needs to get back to watch Bargain Hunter!
Our manager will not pay overtime unless the person really finish beyond the contracted time. It does not amtter if the person came in 1.5 hours before and then gets delayed with WTLL, late mail, late missorts or partner that come in on time... With P&L and modernisation, a lot of people that come in early nowadays on Average work for more hours than they get paid; I think.

Well that's fine. If anyone, wrongly in my opinion, comes in off their own back then that's their fault, RM won't pay you as they didn't ask you to do OT. Simple answer is start on time, then you may get plenty of OT, though in RM's current culture, not necessarily. And managers will only pay OT if you do go past your finishing time, ghost OT as it was called shouldn't be happening anymore. Unfortunately.

On a 7hr 48min day (39hr) it's difficult to see where a full-timer would get any more than 50 minutes to prep another frame.
That's only leaving 6hrs 58 mins for...
The delivery span. 4.15 hr
Travelling time. 20 min
End of delivery tasks. 5 min
Meal relief. 20 min
Prepping their own frame entirely including D2D. 1 hour
Tiedown including redirections and kill offs. 20 min
Retrieving specials,PDAs and van keys from the locker. 3 min
Vehicle check. 5 min
Loading van. 5 min
Put some numbers next to those and you'll see that it's not always the full-timer's fault.
All that other time.
Ill argue a point.... FT starts work 6.30..... he has to prep 1 duty plus his own.... would it not be best he spends all his time on PT duty and not putting a letter in his her frame until 8 when there due off primary? In my office they have moved back the hours on heavy days and in that time every FT has that time to get there duty in, and no extra time is put in to PT. I feel sorry for PT as i see them coming through the door on heavy days at 9am, and they have d2d mech letters packets redirects and tie up whilst every FT is all up and ready and heading to the bait room for there 20 mins break. Cant every1 see that theres a divide in here. FT are all for themselves and PT dont get treated well. I make sure that i get the PT duty up. I feel let down if i dont do it. And i have at some stages pre revision prepped in 3 whole deliveries and my own in my time.
What gets me with working for this hell hole company and alot of the staff and yourselves know you do this..... folk take the piss during the week, slow on prep walk etc.... yet come fcking saturday you see the mad rush and every1 is finished in good time.
1 day i saw a guy that is in bottom 5 slowest in office, go out on a saturday and beat me back to the office. It just goes to show that theres a lot of problems in here and we need to weed out the slackers.
I bet alot of these so called runners you call them would do a fantastic job if giving the chance to go FT

That's the point I'm making. He comes in early, doesn't take a break and flys around like somebody possessed. Even then he sometimes goes over time on heavy days but still will not claim overtime. I really do not understand it, totally stupid.
If he was to come in on time, take breaks, do the delivery at a reasonable pace and claim when legitimately going over time. He would be earning more for doing exactly the same job.
If you do a job too well, you’ll get stuck with it.

Three things crammy. 1. The meal relief for a full-timer is 40 mins not 20 mins
FT starts work 6.30..... he has to prep 1 duty plus his own.... would it not be best he spends all his time on PT duty and not putting a letter in his her frame until 8
2. By allocating a full-timer 60 mins to fully prep his delivery including D2D and packets how can you then argue that the full-timer should spend 90 mins prepping the part-time duty?
3. Even using the times you have provided it which are tight especially on the prep & tie down it adds up to 6hrs 53 mins giving a grand total of 5 extra mins available to prep the part-time duty.

To be fair they did in 2007 - sadly nothing since then. They could even rerun the same stuff with a few changes.

I can't comment on his performance DB,only on the timings.
If he isn't doing enough in the 50 mins that's maybe something to talk to your rep about but it's a difficult position either way.
Managing performance is a management thing but it's not even easy for them to do it right without resorting to B&H.
On an average day I would be looking to just have D2D and packets left with 50 mins resource already in.
Your managers should know that.

Yes fishtank I would be happy with that, but I don't want to grass anybody up,it would make me as bad as them, thats another thing that P&L is reponsible for, causing problems like this, little things like where there is 2 addresses to one slot and the letters aren't put in carefully so you constantly have to check that you won't have to walk back, birthday cards and things with torn envelopes that I wouldn't have prepped because they should have been put in a security bag.So much better when we were responsible for our own prepping the standards now have fallen to an all time low IMHO.
Bring in a clocking on and clocking off system that will save the company millions, that way the runners who come in early for nothing can then clock off at 12 midday everyday if they want? So look at the savings here clocking off at two and a half hours a day everyday before your time? 12 and a half hours a week savings? wonder will they still come in early when they open their wage packet?
In my office it's the runners who are letting the company down by mis deliveries, not doing re-directions, losing mail and yeah the managers hasn't got the knackers to tell them. My opinion is managers are frightened of 10% of posties in the office they won't say word to some of them.

You could tattoo that sticker on the runners foreheads but it would not get through.

Talking to my rep today,a smashing bloke btw,he said he was sort off listening in on a conferance call from the area manager to his untermensch and he said the way they were spoken to was disgusting and he is of the opinion that they are terrrified of him and all they do is pass it on to us,as they used to say sh1te rolls downhill, that is why they early starters and the runners will never be discouraged from their activities and those of us that refuse to be intimidated will always be targeted.Such a shame the way this company has sunk so low.

Well, I joined the company after 2007 so I am not aware that they at least tried... However, before we start talking about non-cooperation and privatisation and DSA, we should have a rerun of the campaign highlighted above. We should stop allowing RM to get away with all sorts of bird-brain ideas; the government and the privateers will be even more encouraged to push us into a corner if we cannot even do the simplest thing - work to contract!
I hope we shall not end up as the Miners Part 2... I think we let our representatives (CWU) present good arguments against privatisation and not get too involved on an individual basis - what will be will be. The public is not overwhelming on our side because some still think we engage in Spanish practices, we are paid too much for an easy job and we tend to go onstrike are very important times - like Xmas and many more reasons...
