My P&L partner comes in about an hour early, to throw all his mail off, I arrive at 7:30, throw off my 1/6th D2D's, then start prepping m mail he finishes way before me, and threatens to go and make a start without me, I just carry on, even take a 20 min break, he's told other people I will crack first, and come in to make to him happy, thing is I can't stand him, so the more I piss him off the better I feel.
He runs around, always gets back to the van before, and gets really wound up, when it's 2:30 and we still haven't finished.

Folks at mine today voluntarily agreed to doing Lapsing instead of coming in on their time... :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

The fudged choice by ate Area Rep was for posties to either come in on their time and return to the office at the end of shift )and be engaged by managers) or to lapse one brutal walk. Most people will rather lapse and work for nothing (most of the time)... Wonders!

The problem is that the lapse will now be compulsory regardless of traffic (of course, they might say otherwise - that is what the Top Bosses want - they do not care...). There is also the possibility that they might increase the number of walks being lapsed. They will probably do so if people continue to come in early and finish early.

Managers says he does not care what time people come in. But he is loathed to seeing people come back hours early especially when their own bosses are around.

And the CWU is more pre-occupied with DSA and other dross.

The more walks that are lapsed, the earlier the idiots come in.

It's ok saying 'grow some' but the day to day arguments with management do grind you down, especially, when by & large you are in the minority.

True, but what can the union do if the muppets decide to come in early?,I can't see how the union can stop these people from self harming.

Being fulltime i will argue a cause for part timers. I have seen in my office that part timers feel the need to come in early as they are at a disadvantage. Our mail doesnt come in until a certain time and we have 1 person do earlies so when we start at half 6 theres nothing to sort. Every fulltimer then goes on there own frame until mail comes in and then jump onto partimers frames. So really it should be other way around. When the last lot of walk sequencing comes in nearly every fulltimer has there duty in and packets and then gets the mech in. Hitting on the time the mech comes in the part timers are due to start. And this is 9am. They are behind every fulltimer when they come thru the door. Then they have to put all there mech in, packets, re directs, and tie up whilst fulltimers just think for themselves. So isnt it any wonder why folk feel the need to come in early?????

Its simple FT think for themselves. This company is not 1 to help, every1 more or less thinks for number 1.

It pisses me right off these complaints in here. Take a good hard look at yourselves and ask are you doing enough for part timers?

I have seen it on tuesdays the part timers coming in at 9am starts and every fulltimer has been bagged up and van loaded whilst these same part timers have mech packets etc and tie up, again not fair?

Now this is just my opinion and im a FT member of staff.

F@ck me the first thing that you have posted that I agree with, also figure this out a full timer on double prep in our office does a maximum of 50 mins on a part timers frame, then all the other time is spent chucking his own round out,so a full timer does 4hrs and 10 mins other work and gets paid for 39hr the part timer has to come in later and finish his round off and do D2D'S or whatever they are called nowadays and only gets paid 30 hrs.

I used to be a 'runner' on my round, but it wasn't something I could maintain without burning myself out after a couple of years.
Not one person in my office made issue of it directly to me. Apart from disguised comments thrown around the office now and again, which now, I realise what they were getting at. I didn't really associate it at the time with anything I was doing wrong; probably quite naive, but I just carried on, blissfully unaware.

No one explained the impact it could have on someone else covering or taking over my round, or the impact it could have on the whole office (I wasn't the only one doing it, and there are many more doing the same now and coming in early).

If people stopped moaning, targeting people for ridicule and actually did (or in this case said) something about it to the so called offenders; explained EXACTLY what can happen as a result (i.e. managers WILL and always do take advantage and punish the whole office when people restructure their hours to suit themselves, or appear way to keen etc) then they might take it on board and change their ways. If they don't change then everything that could be done has been done and the individual is obviously looking out for themselves and gives a flying hoot about the rest of the office or the job itself.

I'm making assumptions about what goes on in other offices, but the experience I've had in my office is that no one talks to each other, sure there's endless banter, talking and chatting but when it comes to the nitty gritty of problems at work no one has anything significant or productive to say or do, nor does anyone, for some unexplainable reason want to get involved with trying to explain things to anyone, because if no one does, they will just carry on regardless; it's just another opportunity to poke fun at someone from a distance, or more importantly it seems, to have a good gripe about someone.

I apologise if I'm offending anyone but it's something I feel really strongly about. Lack of communication causes chaos.

On a 7hr 48min day (39hr) it's difficult to see where a full-timer would get any more than 50 minutes to prep another frame.

That's only leaving 6hrs 58 mins for...

The delivery span.
Travelling time.
End of delivery tasks.
Meal relief.
Prepping their own frame entirely including D2D.
Tiedown including redirections and kill offs.
Retrieving specials,PDAs and van keys from the locker.
Vehicle check.
Loading van.

Put some numbers next to those and you'll see that it's not always the full-timer's fault.
All that other time. :left: :cuppa

I've been with somebody today who has a reputation as being very fast, a runner, I couldn't say but I'd be surprised if he wasn't. He always comes in early and never takes a break.

Today he did something for the first time in his two year service with RM ......................... He claimed an hour of overtime!!!!

How, in all that time has he not gone over time?

How much has he lost in income and for what? Maybe he needs to get back to watch Bargain Hunter!

That's only leaving 6hrs 58 mins for...

The delivery span. The part timer has the same span
Travelling time. Same for the part timer
End of delivery tasks.Again same for the part timer
Meal relief.And again
Prepping their own frame entirely including D2D.
Tiedown including redirections and kill offs. The part timer has to do these thngs
Retrieving specials,PDAs and van keys from the locker. The part timer has to get his own,as the full timer won't sign for anything not on his walk.
Vehicle check. The part timer helps check the lights etc.
Loading van.Part timer has to load his own stuff

Put some numbers next to those and you'll see that it's not always the full-timer's fault.

,the full timer I work with does 40 mins prep for me on Monday .Tuesday and 50 mins on Wednesday,Thursday ,Friday and 40 mins on a Saturday. He usually manages to get my seg mail in 3 trays usually,by the time I get in he is usually halfway into his sandwiches,he has no incentive to throw my mail out and do his fair share, the trouble I have been getting into lately is because of this, the dim takes that 40 or 50 mins of what the figures say and I am usually left with 20 or 25 mins to chuck all the rest out 2 rough bags, redirections tie up and do D2D'S I feel like ramming his sandwhich box down his throat.

You're missing the point with the whole part-timer does the same thing.
If the full-timer's hours are fully utilised using the IWT and Pegasus and the part-timer does not have enough duty time to complete his/her tasks it's not up to the full-timer to subsidise it by doing more of the part-timer's prep..
It's up to management to resource it properly.
By blaming the full-timer you're letting management off the hook.

I understand what you are saying but it is me who gets the grief, why is he ready and your not,he can do it in his time etc.I know I could get a lot more prepped in 40 or 50 mins than he does, all very well if you have a work mate who is prepared to do his fair share as I am sure you do,but there is some lazy s@ds who get all their chatting and talking done whilst they should be prepping the other persons walk,I,ve been tested twice now and on those occasions my frame has a lot more mail in it when I get there so it can be done.
