How to let your people know why we're on strike

Here's an idea.... it may be a bit far fetched, but..

Well... what about a leaflet... delivered on strike days.... to those you'd normally deliver to?

Explaining why you're out on strike, what it means to you, what it means to them.

To you: less money, worse conditions.

To them: less service, more cost.


It shows that you aren't "skiving" .... and it gets the message across to the public.

If the leaflet can be produced locally... and can have a website address where "customers" can find out more about what is going on, then I reckon we'll be using the best talent we have... distributing information... this time though, it's for us!

We all have access to computers, any one of us can knock up a leaflet, especially if it's an A5... a few quid on photocopying, or a bucket on a picket line, will soon offset the cost, and we'll be getting our message out.... which is more than the CWU is doing at the moment.

What do people reckon?

Along the same lines.... but an A4 leaflet taped to all pillar boxes, explaining, briefly, why we're out.... what it means for us.. and more importantly, how the changes will affect the customer....

This is very easily done.... written in bold, and with a web-address where if they want to, find out all the facts they aint getting from the Union or the TV.

We sooooooooooo need public support on this one.... this is the biggest action we've taken since 1987, and we need to pool all ideas....

Who else can come up with something that will get OUR message across???? Or ideas about what the leaflet, pillar-box poster, should say?

Does that mean you can't put a notice "From Postmen"... to one side of it? Or over it????

If I see any of them I'm gonna rip the f***ers off. The more the mail gets caught up in a back log the better.

I think delivering the leaflets and doing posters is a brilliant idea, it really makes a massive difference when you're on strike (from my experience anyway). You could also have a load to give out to people passing the picket lines.

The government and media are obviously really going for it with this dispute so anything you can do to put your side across is a bonus.

I always thought if someone could get one of those spot light things then you could put an image or slogan across parliament like they've done with advertising, but guess that would be a tad expensive!

Also could you get some stickers done with basic facts on them? Or sometimes it's worth doing banner drops. I know some people dropped a banner off a bridge in Brixton in support of the FBU when they were on strike.

Lastly you could do stalls in city/town centres and give out leaflets there as well. But thought dropping off the leaflets on your usual rounds is a really good idea.

Nice ideas there London UNISON...

There aint nothing stopping us from doing anything.... except the repercussion of overtly stupid stuff when there is a return to work.

I don't expect that by next tuesday, the CWU would have swung into action and every pillar box in the country will be emblazoned with a reason as to why the CWU is out on strike.

BUT If we can have something here.... in this thread.... for those that read it... and who want to go ahead and copy it down in biro, or marker pen.... and then want to go and take a bit of gaffer tape to their local post-box...

then.... there's nowt stopping us!!!!!!!!! (ya get my drift!!!!!!!)

So.... what are the most important points you'd put on a A4 poster for your local pillar box...????

And I promise... my local pillar box will soooooooo get smothered in the best......
