With your years of service, I can't belive you'd work, unless you retire before 2010. For the sake of couple hundred quid, you're going to lose 30% of your pension. Also see how your wage packet feels for the next 3 weeks, with no D2D payments, get used to it as that will be the norm and you'll be doing 2 extra for nowt.
If the people with a high number of years service, are stupid enough to work instead of striking how can we expect the kids of today to have a backbone and think for themselves.
Think again and join the strike or at least leave the CWU and fight your own fight.
The extra I pay goes into an AVC like a personal or stakeholder pension and I will use that to buy an annuity when the time comes. It is not linked to the main RM pension!

Why would you do that for, don't you trust the RM pension then?
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
A word of warning to anyone that thinks an AVC is the answer to a failing pension scheme situation. It ain't and anyone who has ever paid AVCs into Equitable Life knows that. Supposed to be the best in the AVC business and it was for a while and everyone poured their money in and every single one has lost sums ranging up to tens of thousands of pounds.
Unlike Northern Rock there was no bail-out from the government either as the fat cat directors of Equitable Life walked away with their huge pay-offs and bonuses - so just a word of warning as there is nothing that beats a good pension scheme but its expensive and that is why this company is intent on dismantling the scheme as is so that it makes the company a more saleable privatisation prospect.
Other thing I keep thin king about as well is the next crunch coming for the scheme in a few years when 40,000 workers have been shed - that's about a third of those paying into the fund. But the number of pensioners will remain the same and it doesn't take Einstein to work out that there will be another attack on the pension scheme at that time by a sell-out management who have gold plated pension schemes and huge bonuses and no doubt promised shareholding stakes in the new privatised company.
We lose this fight then Royal Mail won't be worth working for!
Robert T I wonder how you come to the conclusion of your 90% will work..? So what n how do you explain your 10% to strike and what would it take for you to have it even 50% 50%??? Im Just interested on a up coming strike breakers opinion???
Oh yes,I used to pay my extra pension money into Equitable Life and I withdrew it after all that went on. I took the financial hit on the chin and transferred to a different provider and that has been a good decision for me as my fund is much bigger now than if I'd left it with Equitable life.
