But as for the specifics in question, I have never trodden in dog muck which was clearly visible on a footpath or bridleway in front of me whilst I was watching where I was going.

Well that would obviously depend upon interpretation because the opposite of my statement would be; I have trodden in dog muck which was clearly visible on a footpath or bridleway in front of me whilst I was wasn't watching where I was going.
So is lack of attention the same as accidentally? and if so who has failed in their duty, the employer for not providing a solution for you to counter your lack of attention or you for accidentally treading in it.

At some point you need to take responsibility for your lack of attention, if you were to 'accidentally' miss the clearly defined WET PAINT sign and became an unwitting member of the black hand gang, should your employer have to provide white spirit and kitchen towel in the vans in order to prevent the potentially toxic paint being spread?

Put what you are saying into context, when riding a motorcycle, (with the environment around you changing at a considerably faster rate than when walking), it is expected that you avoid other vehicles, pedestrians and street furniture whist scanning the road for pot holes, raised drains, diesel spills and painted road markings. Take responsibility for your mistakes, it is a completely reasonable expectation that a postman is capable of negotiating objects coming towards them whilst watching where they are walking.
It is expected that with around a 40° clear field of vision, the way we naturally move both our eyes and heads, and the speed at which our brains register what we see we should each expect a peripheral vision above 120°. Roughly speaking a person whose eye line is at 5ft should be able to see the floor in view 3ft away without deliberately looking at it.

And if your attention is pulled from watching your step?
I'd say there's a fair argument for there being no accidents without lack of attention. And it would be some world if that was possible.
As for who's fault it would be, lets blame the dog owner, before we get to you, me or our caring employer.

How on earth is it a lack of care!!! Do you honestly think that i don't try to avoid dog crap!! Your statements are exactly the kind of response i'd expect from a manager who does not know the answer to a reasonable question. Luckily , a manager CAN wash his hands of the matter....because he is never more than ten paces from a fully functioning washroom!! Unfortunately, we are not. I DO NOT want anybody to clean up for me......i want this company to do what is right by its workforce. And that means not putting its employees in a position that can cause ill health.
Maybe you can come and steer the trolley for me eh!!.....obviously i'm some kind of muppet who can't be trusted to walk the streets!
And am pretty sure you DO NOT walk the streets, judging by your responses.

We all know what you're driving at mate. Unfortunately your question was too tempting to resist one-upmanship.
If you were taking it to the max, I'd suggest you keep in your bag or van - paper towels for the wheels and wipes or a soap pump bottle for your hands.
Get off what you can with the towels, wash your hands, then fold your trolley, but not fully, then put everything but the handle stick in a grey sack. Aside from
a pair of marigolds, I can't come up with better.
