Also likely to add ammunition to the argument for withdrawing sick pay for the first 3 days of any absence, something you would imagine the business would love to do.
True, but the new owners will probably bring that in regardless of what people get up to now. RM make it so difficult for people to take holidays when they want, much more than those in higher paying jobs, that they must expect some abuse of their sickness procedures as a consequence.
oh they do - they combat it with the Attendance Agreement - unfortunately the innocent suffer with guilty because of RMs hamfisted approach, the new one won't change that one iota except in HQs mind. Its my opinion that the attendance Agreement was a direct result of the level of sickness before it started, anyone remember being told its time for you to go on sick leave.

I once had a majorly delayed flight and couldnt make it back to work for one day. When i told my manager this, he asked for flight number and company and he checked it with the airline. So be careful how you go about this, personally I wouldnt do any of what youre suggesting unless I was exhausted and planned on spending a few rest days at home.

You could always take your holiday unpaid. If you've got holidays still left him change his mind.

Just because you are not at home when your manager calls doesn't automatically mean you are not genuinely sick. You may be at the doctors/hospital. If you live alone you may be at the supermarket getting food or at the house of a family member who is looking after you. In serious cases you may even be in bed and unable to answer the door!!!

"Use it, or lose it" A little before my time Teebs, but that was because the sick levels weren't as high (% wise) combined with higher staffing levels and a willingness to work overtime, earlier finishes, higher morale...................they were called the good old days for a reason.

I wouldn't mind going on a stage as I've managed to avoid any stages so far, but if they find out, is it sackable?
I will you explain the tan?

If the company won,t allow you any leave - what are you supposed to do?
You are entitled (by law) to at least 20 days paid holiday per annum, If you book your leave and Royal Mail says these days arn,t suitable for the business ,then, its up to management to say what days are available.....You are entitled to alife outside work.
Why do they think people go to work ?
Because we enjoy walking 8 miles a day in the rain delivering junk mail..?
I do it for the 4 weeks a year that gets me away from this miserable country. Without that I might as well sign-on ,because , without my holidays , I can get everything else I need off the social, apparently.
Only matter of time before the company starts attacking leave entitlement......Rant over!
If you go abroad and ring in you absence on a mobile remember to withhold number, the ring tone will be different, also.
So turn you mobey off when not using it.....As for a visit you are entitled to leave your house despite being absent
Might be better to self cert yoursekf for a week before you go, gives you a bit of breathing space.
good luck.

Go sick, the business is screwed anyway it'll make no difference whatever happens in the future. Managers go sick regularly, so I find it no problem taking a few days off if your sick record is good. Let's face it you don't get any thanks for having a good sick record. You can go three or four years without having a day off, yet one slip up and wallop your on a 1st stage warning with no consideration how well you have served the business in the past by coming in every day.
