Why doesn't the C.W.U offer alternatives to strike action?

"Our leaders" aren't employed by RM, so yes they get paid but I think they donate a days wages to somebody.
Strike action has to be validated by a ballot of members. If the members are against it, they vote no.

Got to say, ive worked with dirty Harry and that man, would have walked out at the drop of a hat to support the CWU. Its a shame to hear him say he wont support the union, but i get where hes comming from. The last 2 big strikes cost me plenty of money and the end results werent great. I also think our overall position is weaker now, with more part timers now. Personally think the best way of striking would be alternative days.One day mail centers, next delivery.Might bring a quicker conclusion.

Purely a numbers game,nothing personal.
Part-timers are just less likely to be in the union, for lots of reasons,they are normally less senior,younger,earn less and a lot are on fixed term contracts.
That's obviously a few generalisations but overall it does hold true.

Sorry ft cant agree with you on this one why does being less senior and part time mean you won,t be in union as far as i know our whole mc is in union and most of them or pt btw nearly 1 week since ballot opened and no ballot paper,s yet

DOs are a different animal to mail centres, there is very little union interaction in a DO as opposed to a mc and of course there are many fewer staff - though we are alike in not having had the ballot papers

Generally things are cushty DH. Just having our revision at the moment. We have just agreed to HCT duties of over 4 hours! I know from past experience thats gonna be a killer. But better option than van sharing imo. My attitude is you can only do what you can do in the alloted time m8. Not my fault if they give me too much work. Im not going to be crippling myself to complete, thats for sure.Hope you are well and towing the company line

In our office the Ballot papers arrived with the Rep on the 22nd. The Rep then handed them out individually to each member and ticked their name off on the unit membership list.The list is then sent back to branch with those on annual leave/sick leave marked, and they will be sent a ballot by post. The more remote SPDO's were all sent out by post. All Reps were also allowed to address all the staff at WTL+L prior to the commencing of the Ballot.

Strike action is more likely to scare off potential buyers.
Last thing a buyer wants is a workforce willing to stick together and strike.
